Playing Rules – Under 12’s Development Two-Day Matches The majority of playing rules for the Development grade are as per the Under 12s competitive playing conditions. Please refer to the DVCA rule book for areas not specifically covered below. Where a situation arises which is not specified, coaches/managers should work together ensuring the match is played in the “right” spirit. Two-Day matches with 30 overs per side Teams will score the match. For simplicity all extras (no-balls, wides, etc.) can be assigned to one category of extras. Match results are not entered into MyCricket. To determine the result of a match it is given by dividing the total number of runs made by the number of wickets lost. Session one will be played from 5pm to 6pm. Session two from 6:10pm to 7:10pm. Players are encouraged to arrive by 4:45pm so players are padded up and ready to start at 5pm. Standard Kookaburra DVCA junior ball 145g. Standard stumps Ground to be coned with 50 metre boundaries measured from the marked batting crease (the gap between the two measured areas should be coned in a straight line). No maximum but 11 is the recommended number. Only 11 players (excluding batters) allowed on the ground at one time. Standard Pitch length Each batter and wicketkeeper will wear an approved and properly fitting helmet, with full visor. No fielder (except for the wicketkeeper) is permitted within 9m of the batting crease. No toss, the away team will bat first. 30 overs. Maximum of 8 balls per over regardless of illegitimate deliveries. Teams bat for their entire allotted overs (30 overs) unless otherwise agreed to by both coaches/managers to reduce the number of overs due adverse conditions or other reasons for time being lost. Teams bat their total overs regardless of the number of wickets lost. No player can bowl more than 4 overs. No more than 2 overs in a spell. Change bowling ends after every 10 overs. Batters swap strike at end of each over. As per standard Under 12 rules, players are dismissed but in this grade batters may return in order of runs made after all teammates have had a bat. Where two or more batters were dismissed on the same score, the one who faced the least number of balls will return first (this principle ensures that batters dismissed after facing only a couple or less balls get another go). Batters must immediately retire upon reaching 25 runs. A ball bouncing more than twice will be called a no ball. In the event of adverse weather reducing the time available, coaches/managers should try to split the overs/time between the teams as evenly as possible. As a guide, reduce the overs by one over for every 3 minutes of time lost. Next batters should be padded up and ready to go before they are due to bat so that changeovers are as efficient as possible. Pre-determined bowling orders and rotating the field around one position (except for wicketkeeper) will also help to keep the game moving.
