Stand in front of a floor lamp, and turn around slowly. Notice how the lamp moves within your field of vision. Observe and Think Why did the lamp seem to move? What Makes the Moon Bright? 8.4.d Students know that stars are the source of light for all bright objects in outer space and that the Moon and planets shine by reflected sunlight, not by their own light. On a day when you see the Moon in the sky, compare it with a round object. Hold the object in line with the Moon. Make sure that your hand does not block the sunlight. Notice the part of the object that is bright. Observe and Think How does the sunlight on the object compare with the light on the Moon?
