Another academy product has signed for a professional club and under 19s have been selected for North East Wales under 18s squad. Subs A reminder that a number of players parents are now four weeks late in paying subs. This was advertised in all newsletters since June and all coaches will have text out to all to remind also. All subs should have been paid in full for the remainder of the season. Majority have already paid in full over pre season but for those that paid £30 for pre season must pay £120 tonight. Subs for the season is £150 for all players. All parents must ensure fees are paid in full. Anyone wishing to pay in cheque form must make cheque payable to Connah’s Quay Academy. As has been stated numerous times this is a non refundable payment and only full payment will be taken by Rosie or Dawn this evening. Full list of of players who owe subs include ranging from £30-£150 include: Under 8s: Lloyd Hayes, Vimal Yoganathan, Under 11s: Billy Nicholas, Tomos Dickenson Under 12s: Leon Sumner Under 19s: Lee Jones, Bryn Jones, Lee ludgate, Sean Cookson, Sonny phelan Another great weekends of tests for academy sides. Good challenges again this weekend saw sides face Newtwown, Llandudno Town, Rhyl and Llansantfraid academy sides. Another full games programme saw the under 8s and 9s travel away to Newtown for friendly fixtures prior to the first team Welsh Premier league game. The under 8s played in a number of small sides five v five games and did very well winning all the games and playing some great football with lots of the Coerver moves from their training programme coming out which was great to see. The under 9s faced Newtown in a 8v8 format against a strong Newtown side. A real end to end game saw the 9s play some attractive football and played at a good tempo. The side won the game by three goals to one thanks to strikes from Charlie Davies, Luca Hogan and Leon Bennett. With man of the match going to stand in keeper Oliver Thomas who performed excellently in the sticks and realy emphasized what the club wants from their keepers in a sweeper keeper role as well as a strong performance when played out in defence. The 8s and 9s also stayed for the first team game against Newtown. The players walked out with the first team onto the pitch and enjoyed a real entertaining game in which the firsts won by three goals to two thanks to two goals from Gary O’Toole and a Paul Mooney late winner to take the side to third in the Welsh Premier League table. Our 10s and 11s travelled away to Llandudno Town in 9v9 fixtures. Our 10s returned with a three nil win thanks to goals from Kai Evans (2) and Trialist with man of the match going to Steffan Knight. A strong performance from the 10s, who moved the ball well and maintained good shape and movement through out. Our 11s who were also at Llandudno and made a great start and finding themselves two nil up before the break with goals from Ben Thompson and Tomos Dickenson. But following the break the Nomads had a dreadful period and conceded three goals to a strong llandudno side and found themselves three goals to two down. Nomads returned to their good quality play in the final ten minutes but failed to grab an equalizer. Man of the match went to defender Jonathan Jones who continued his impressive run of performances. Sunday saw our under 13 and 15 sides face Llansantfraid at Connah’s Quay High School in friendly fixtures. Our under 13s had what defiantely can be called a game of two halves. Trailing at the break by three goals to two the Nomads responded well to the coaches half time team talk from Mark Rowlands and Danny Cunnah and put into action what was asked and won the game by eight goals to three. Jack Swinnerton grabbed himself a hat trick as well as the man of the match award with two goals from Max Moore as well as single strikes from Matthew Hill, Luke Jones and Aiden Fox. The Nomads under 15s fell to a two one home defeat against a strong and physically good away side. The Nomads had taken the lead at half time thanks to Danny Chambers. But Llansantfraid scored two goals just after half time and sealed a win. Man of the match went to George Coulthon who played with great maturity and organized the defence well through out the game. Our remaining three games were for the 12s, 14s and 16s sides who all travelled to Rhyl for academy cup games which all took place at the Corbett Stadium pitch. A fantastic opportunity for all sides to play at this ground and we thank Mike Jones and Niall McGuiness at Rhyl for giving our players such a great opportunity. First up was our under 12s who were quite simply superb in the first half. The quality of play with the passing, movement and patterns of play was fantastic to watch and deservedly took a one nil lead thanks to a goal from Leo Sumner. Against the run of play in the first half Rhyl made it level after a good penalty save from Jamie King fell to Rhyl midfielder who finished ending it one one at the break. The second saw Rhyl take control of the game and they really increased the pressure and pace which Nomads failed to respond to and Rhyl took a three one lead. Joe O Gorman pulled one back for the side and with a few minutes remaining he also saw a great free kick well saved by the keeper which sealed the win for Rhyl. Man of the match went to Cole Wilson at left back who was outstanding in both defence and attack on the left hand side. Our under 14s game followed and the side dominated possession through out and utilized the three cenral midfield players well out but it was Rhyl who opened the scoring in the first ten minutes with a follow up from a Jay Loyden save after a good effort from a Rhyl free kick. Nomads leveled though soon after when a corner fell to skipper to Steffan Owen who fired in well. Following the goal Nomads controlled the pace of the game and created chance after chance but failed the grab the winner with some good defending from Rhyl and a number of good saves from the Rhyl keeper. Man of the match went to central midfielder Louis Phelan. The final game of the weekend saw the under 16s take to the field. The side dominated possession and created a total of ten efforts on goal which were all saved by the Rhyl keeper in the first half alone. Thomas Bibby grabbed the only goal of the first half to give the side a one nil lead but the continued pressure showed in the second half with Nomads scoring a further five thanks to goals from Jack Chambers (2), Jamie Roberts, Andrew Jones and a twenty five yard screamer from Rhys Cunnah. This game was recorded and a small highlights video has been put together. A must watch is the fifth goal from Cunnah which would be a contender for goal of the season at most levels. Man of the match went to Thomas Bibby who pushed the side on coming off the bench with the first goal and was fantastic in attack through out. All full match reports from all coaches as well as player statistics have now been updated onto the academy site. Academy Fixtures this weekend. Another full list of fixtures for all sides against Rhyl, Bala Town and Flint Town United academy sides. A great week of football to look forward to with all of our sides U8 to U19 in action. Tomorrow evening our under 19s travel away to Rhyl in the Welsh Premier Under 19/development league. Kick off for the game is 19:30 at the Corbett Stadium with all players having to arrive no later than 18:30 at the venue. As always all players must arrive in full tracksuit and polo top and have their Nomads match day bag with both home and away kits, black rain jacket for warm up and Nomads water bottle. The games programme continues this Friday afternoon when our under 15s face touring Australian opposition for a 17:00 kick off at Dock Road. We are aware of the early start but this is the only time the Australians side could do as they have other plans that evening. All players are asked to arrive at Dock Road at close to 16:30 as possible in full yellow away playing kit with black rain jacket and water bottle. Our under 8 to 11 sides face Rhyl this Saturday afternoon with all games kicking off prior to our first team game at the Deeside Stadium live on the S4C cameras. All kick offs for these age groups will now take place at 13:00 in the afternoon which will allow the games to be played and players able to go straight to the stadium with u8s and u9s being mascots and well as u10s and u11s having a penalty shoot out at half time. This will include both Nomads and Rhyl academy players. All our older u12 to u16 sides are also in attendance for the game as well as junior league club Deeside Dragons. On top of the big crowd Rhyl always bring and the ever growing Deeside Stadium crowd in should hopefully be a fantastic attendance. The under 10s and 11s games vs Rhyl will take place at Connah’s Quay High School for 13:00 kick offs in 9v9 fixtures. The under 8s and 9s will be playing in futsal fixtures at the Deeside Leisure Centre again for 13:00 fixtures. All players at these four age groups must arrive no later than 12:30 and must be wearing full red home kit with black rain jacket for warm up and Nomads water bottle. All sides are reminded even at under 8s and under 9s that under armour garments have to match the playing kit. These are Welsh Premier League rules which as an academy we have to adhere to. Only red garments for home kit and yellow for away are permitted. Players will be asked to remove these in future games if not correct colour with kit and all Nomads academy coaches have been reminded of this ruling. Sunday sees our under 13 and 15 sides travel away for the short journey to Flint Town United academy for 10:30 kick offs. Both sides need to arrive at Flint High School for no later than 10:00 in full red home playing kit with black Nomads rain jacket and Nomads water bottle. Address for Flint high school: Flint high School, Maes Hyfryd, Flintshire, CH6 5LL Our under 12, 14 and 16 sides are back in academy cup action at home to Bala Town for 11:00 kick offs. All players must arrive in full nomads tracksuit and polo top and have with them their Nomads match day bag, full home red kit, black rain jacket for warm up and Nomads water bottle for no later than 10:00. Our under 12 and 14 sides will play at Connah’s Quay High School with the under 16s game taking place at Dock Road. As always good luck to all of our sides in what should be another great weekend of games. Black rain jackets A reminder that black rain jackets must be worn for all warm ups and games. The rain jackets were selected as black to not clash with playing kit for subs when watching games as well as for those harsh Winter months. The red jumpers can be worn as well as the jacket but black jacket must be worn at all games. Red Tracksuit jackets A reminder to all that red tracksuit tops are only to be worn for older sides when travelling to games and getting changed at venues only. No sides are to wear these at training any times. Only the red jumper and/or black rain jacket can be worn. Younger sides will only be wearing tracksuit tops for parents evening and on academy tours unless specified by coaches like older sides that they will be changing at venue. Tri Cast rolls over to £350 jackpot. Another big week of sales and one three players just one result away from winning the £300 jackpot. Big sales this week came from the under 9s with Dylan Williams making 14 sales and Leon Bennet 16 as well as Liam Bruford from the under 14s also making 16 sales for the academy. Three players this week came close to winning the jackpot with Chris Dobson (Matthew Davies 9s), Tina Oliver (Charlie Davies 9s), and Mark Jones (Andy Jones 16s) all guessing correctly the three nil victory for Germany and one nil win for Wales. Unfortunately they all predicted wrong for the 4-1 win to England over Monetenegro with the three players going for a 3-0, 2-0 and 3-0 wins. This means we now have a roll over and a jackpot now stands at £350. Academy Player signs for premier league club! We have received fantastic news today that under 12 Harvey Tattum has signed for premier league club Stoke City. Under 12 Player Tattum yesterday signed a two year deal with the premier league club and becomes the 13th academy graduate to sign for a professional club. Harvey has been trialling for Stoke for the last six weeks and has played in a number of high profile games for the club. Harvey has been tremendous for Nomads since he joined 2 years ago. He is a talented left sided player with great technical ability and left foot who is equally comfortable at both left back and left wing. A massive well done to Harvey and we wish him all the best during his time at Stoke City. Since the academy began just over four years ago Harvey becomes the twelth player who has progressed from our academy to join a professional club. A huge credit also goes to under 12 coach Leighton Sumner who has worked with the player for the last two seasons and is the fifth player from one of Leighton's sides which he has moved to a professional club. A fantastic achievement and a huge credit to the work he has done at the academy to date. We have always made it clear that the main aim of the academy is to move players onto professional clubs as well as aiding players into the first team to play at a Welsh Premier level. A real credit to the work being done by all coaches and everyone involved at the academy for the following number of players who have progressed and developed into the professional game. Under 19s selected for North East Wales under 18s representative squad We received great news yesterday that five of our under 19s have been selected for the representative squad who face North Wales Coast FA this week. We have always had a good relationship with manager Gary Crewe over the last two seasons in particular where the side has contained a high number of Nomads academy players. The side have been successful in the last two seasons as well in winning the tri angular competition against the North Wales Coast FA and mid Wales representative sides two years on the bounce. Under 19 central midfielder Abe Dobson has been named captain of the side and is joined in the squad be fellow seventeen year old Aron Williams along with three sixteen year olds Jack Riley, Ben Wynne and Kieran Gaul. A massive well done to all five players on being selected in the squad and we wish them and the North East Wales good luck in their first fixture of the event on Thursdsay evening at Colwyn Bay. The first team home game to Rhyl on Saturday 19th October has been confirmed as a live game on S4C channel Sgorio. This has now been selected as one of the two mandatory games that all academy players from under 8 to under 19 must attend which we have done for the last three seasons. Great for all fans etc to be on tele as well as what will surely be a fantastic crowd with the Rhyl fans and a good game between two footballing sides. We have already arranged for our under 8, 9, 10 and 11 sides to face Rhyl academy the day of the game for 13:00 kick offs at home then all sides will go straight to the stadium for the game. The 8s and 9s of both sides will walk out with the teams and the 10s and 11s will face off at half time in two penalty shoot outs at either goal of the stadium. All academy players from U12 to U19 must arrive at the restaurant opposite the Deeside Stadium for no later than 14:30 in full Nomads academy tracksuit and polo tops. All U8 to U11 sides must also arrive at the same venue and must have their tracksuits over their playing kits. All players will be given drinks and food at the venue and at 15:00 taken into the stadium to take there seats ready for the game. The academy are being given a section in the stadium and all will be sat together with all players and coaches through out the fixture. Parents are also encouraged to come to the game but players will be remaining in their designated seating areas for the entire match. This is a mandatory game that all academy players must attend and with the game being streamed live on S4C sgorio all players will more than likely be on television at some point. Fifteen minutes prior to kick off all under 8s and 9s in the full red home kit will be walking out with the players along with Rhyl academy players walking out with their side. Once they have taken part in a big photo players will come off the pitch put their tracksuits on and take their seats back in the stadium. At half time the under 10s and 11s will take the field in full red home kits along with Rhyl sides and each age groups will take to one of the goals and enjoy a penalty shoot out competition at half time in front of the crowds. Again like the under 8s and 9s once left the pitch the 10s and 11s will put their tracksuits back on and return to their seats. Another busy weekend of action for the whole club and bringing everyone together for the live S4C Sgorio game on Saturday in what could potentially be one of biggest ever crowds at the Deeside Stadium should be superb. Any problems or concerns please don’t hesitate to give me a call. Yours in Sport Jay Catton - Academy Director/Coach under 16’s/Assistant first team manager Mobile: 07952 646463
