Make checks payable to William Woods University. insurance and medical care The Owls basketball camp will NOT be responsible for any medical or other charges in connection with a camper’s attendance. Each camper’s parent or legal guardian will be required to authorize a medical release form that releases the camp, and its directors and employees, for ALL liability for injuries, accidents and/or illness incurred while at camp. All campers are encouraged to have physical examinations under the care of their family physician prior to attending camp. Refunds No deposit refunds will be made after June 23, 2017. Physical injury during the camp will be the only reason to receive a pro-rated credit, good for use at a future camp. Camp facilities All camp sessions take place on the campus of William Woods University. The majority of the camp will take place in Anderson Arena, inside the Helen Stephens Sports Complex. Other areas will include the outdoor lighted tennis courts next to the Helen Stephens Sports Complex. Campers will also have access to our astro-turf multi-purpose room located inside the sports complex. Camp Director - Dan Chapla Dan Chapla became the 10th William Woods University head women's basketball coach in 2008. He has taken two teams to the NAIA Sweet Sixteen and has produced three NAIA All-Americans. William Woods has won at least 20 games every season under the direction of Chapla, and he has taken the Owls to the NAIA National Tournament for a school-record six consecutive years. Under Chapla, William Woods also has produced numerous Academic All-AMC players. The Owls have ranked in the WBCA Top 25 of Academic Teams in four of his five years. In his first season, his team went 21-11 and was ranked as high as 22nd nationally. The Owls were co-champions of the American Midwest Conference regular season, champions of the AMC postseason tournament and received an automatic bid to the NAIA National Tournament for the first time since 1991-92. During 2009-10, the Owls repeated as co-champions of the AMC regular season and again won the postseason tournament. The Owls earned another trip to the NAIA National Tournament and were ranked as high as 15th in the nation. In 2010-11, the Owls finished second in the AMC regular season and postseason tournament, and advanced to the NAIA National Tournament and the Sweet Sixteen. William Woods finished the 2011-12 season in second place in the AMC regular season and won their third AMC Tournament title in four years, giving them another birth in the NAIA Tournament. The Owls collected a third place finish in the 2012-13 AMC regular season and a runner-up spot in the AMC Tournament. WWU earned its second-ever at-large bid to the NAIA Tournament and its second appearance in the Sweet Sixteen. During 2013-14, the Owls earned fourth place in the AMC and grabbed an at-large bid to the NAIA Tournament. individual fundamental camp The Owls Girls Basketball Camp will be held June 25 – 29, 2017. Our goal is to provide the fundamental skills and concepts necessary to become a more complete player. A special emphasis will be placed upon improving individual offensive skills. Each camp day will consist of fundamental skill stations in the morning, participation in contests during the afternoon and league play in the evening. WWU Women ' s Basketball Achievements Chapla came to William Woods from Culver-Stockton College, were he spent six years as head women’s basketball coach. He also spent two seasons as the men’s basketball assistant coach at Ottawa University in Kansas and a year at the University of Central Missouri as an assistant men's coach. Chapla began his coaching career at Culver-Stockton in 1996 as an assistant men's basketball coach and intramural director for three years. A graduate of Ottawa University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science, Chapla was a starting point guard there for three years, team captain, First-Team All-Conference, and NAIA Honorable-Mention All-American. He was inducted into the Ottawa University Hall of Fame in 2014. Chapla earned his master’s degree in physical education/sports administration from the University of Central Missouri. Chapla and his wife, Gara, reside in Fulton, Mo., with their daughter, Ivy, and son, Luke.
