Computing Independent Learning Challenge TITLE: Game Design and Development using KODU You will… Be able to plan and design a game for a purpose and audience Be able to use programming constructs in Kodu software to develop your game YEAR 8 Time scale 4 hrs plus 2 additional hrs for extended learning challenge. Start Date w/c 22nd May 2017 Be able test for bugs and fix them where appropriate Be able to evaluate your game, identifying strengths and areas for improvements INDEPENDENT LEARNING CHALLENGES There are parts to this challenge; TASK 1. Complete Game Documentation Template provided. The game can be of any genre but must be different from the game you created in lesson. (If you don’t have a computer at home, then attend lunchtime club Tuesdays in room C4 to work on it independently) Your documentation should identify and describe: The genre Target audience Success criteria Compare it to games of similar types Unique selling points Detailed story and narrative for the game A logo which you can create using DrawPlus software or any other image editing software of your choice TASK 2. Create your game using Kodu software. Game should include the following: Clear and helpful instructions are used at the beginning and throughout the game Simple navigation to enhance user experience Helpful feedback is provided when the player advances or fails to advance through the game Submission Date w/c 19th June 2017 Suggested Time Once Complete One Hour Three hours At least 3 objects are used that are coded to perform specific actions Game has an objective with ‘win’ or ‘lose’ conditions Has a clear theme and storyline Visual design of the world is creative and reflects the concept of the game. Sound will be used to enhance gameplay TASK 3: Final game should be exported and saved in your computing, ILC folder in students access drive. EXTENDED INDEPENDENT LEARNING CHALLENGE You can expand your game to multiple levels (minimum of 3) with varying degree of challenge. Two hours LITERACY – Command Words Identify – List the success criteria you going to test against when you complete and run your game Describe – Give a clear narrative of your game which would include its unique selling point Analyse – Provide a logical and correct sequence of how you are going to program each object PRESENTATION Choose how to present your work. You will complete the Game Document template to identify and describe the purpose and audience of your game. You must save your Kodu game solution to your Computing>>ILC folder in Students’ Access.
