President’s Message
Happy Spring (it is here, isn’t it?)! Perusing the Dean’s Nursery order form will help me think so, even if the
temperatures drop again. Speaking of that fundraiser, I have to give one more shout-out to all of you for the
success of the Wine Tasting. We made a record amount, over $10,000! With the amount we have raised
this year, it will be so very sweet to be able to support the various groups, causes and scholars that request
our help. We have already been able to help in many ways this year.
Most recently, we have supported both the musical “Cinderella” at Fairview High School and the Derby
Dash at Gilles Sweet. Something new that we haven’t done in many years is to sponsor a Girls’ Softball
team through our Recreation Department this summer. It will be good publicity for us, too!
It was an interesting program at this past month’s meeting. Jeanne O’Malley reminded us to mind our
posture, as spinal alignment can affect so many areas of our body.
Hope you are able to attend some of the Impromptu events that are being planned. It’s always great to see
each other socially. We will be asking for your thoughts on this past year and your interest in helping in
any way next year. Watch for our “Interest Sheets” for this. There will be a chance to ask questions about
the various committees at next month’s meeting. We will also be ordering Club shirts next month. The
price will be very reasonable, but watch for more details on that on well.
Enjoy this wonderful Season!

Treasurer
Please turn in Reimbursement Requests ASAP! We need to know what funds we will have available for
disbursement. A Dues Notice for the 2017-2018 Club year is attached. They will also be available at the
April meeting.

If you are in need of any stamps or stationery for your particular committee, please do not hesitate to let me
know.
Please let me know if I need to send a card to any member of our Club (sympathy, get well and thinking of
you). I don’t always hear what is happening to one of our members and I want to make sure that a card is
sent to them from the Club.

Wine Tasting
Our final profit for this year’s wine tasting and silent auction is $10,734.63. Thank you to everyone who
made this one of our most profitable fundraisers to date.
Save the date: Saturday, February 17, 2018 is the next Wine Tasting and Silent Auction. We already
have three wineries booked. Vermilion Valley Vineyard, Troutman Vineyard & Winery and the Winery at
Wolf Creek. This year we combined both Troutman and Wolf Creek. They are two separate wineries but
re owned by the Troutman family and have different wines for each winery. We did not book them until
later, so they asked to have both and we said OK as long as they shared a table due to lack of space.
They have asked to have two spaces next year and we are going to honor that request. Vermilion Valley
came to us in December, which never happens. It will be nice to have them back.
We only have one more winery to book. If you have any requests, and/or if you have an “in” with any
wineries, please let us know. It would be wonderful to have our four wineries booked early in the year.
Now that we have already started on next year’s wine tasting, it is not too early to get the chairs in place.
We need one or two people to chair the event and chairs for the silent auction, food and decorations. If
you would like to chair one of these, give us a call or email and we will get reports to you.
This year’s chairs, make sure you write detailed reports and turn them in with preferably three copies – one
for the chair, and two for the committee chairs (to share or to write notes on).
We want to hear your comments – good or bad. Constructive criticism is a good thing. We have chaired
this event for many years. It is nice to see things through other’s eyes and there is always room for
improvement.
Thank you, again, everyone!

ACTIVITIES
All work and no play makes it a dull Club. We all need to get out and enjoy ourselves once in a while. Find
what you are interested and try to participate. You deserve it. Interest Sheets are coming out. If you have
any ideas of Activities, please add them to the Interest Sheets.

Impromptu Activities
The Impromptu outing to the Olive Scene at 19132 Old Detroit Road in Rocky River will be on Monday,
April 10th. We will have the opportunity to try over 50 varieties of the world’s finest extra virgin olive oils
and balsamic vinegars. The cost is $15 per person for the small bites menu which are several appetizers
and desserts. It will begin promptly at 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. We need a minimum of 10 to have this
event. If you want to attend this event, I will need your money by Monday, April 3rd. You can drop it off to
my house at 4305 W. 229th Street or call me to make other arrangements. I also work at Options Salon in
the Fairview Shopping Centre. We may also bring beer or wine. This sounds like a fun evening. Hope
you can make it.
There is also the Fairview Park Garden Club’s Fashion Show by Dillard’s and Luncheon on April 29 th. The
cost is $30. Helen has purchased a table for eight for our Club. You may get your tickets from Helen. This

Plans are underway for our annual banquet held in May. If anyone is free on Wednesday mornings at 9:00

Cannot commit to every week? Then, consider becoming a sub and bowl whenever needed.

Social
We would like to thank Theresa, Carrie, Laurie and Ellen for bringing the refreshments to Monday night’s
meeting. As always, everything was delicious and refreshing. For next month’s meeting, it will be our
annual Mothers and Infants Baby Shower. Carol and Helen have signed up for bakery and/or snacks and
Sally for drinks. If you are not able to bring these items, please let us know and we will take care of it.
Reminder emails will be sent out the week before our April meeting. The Social Committee will be
providing dessert that evening.
Our Installation/Appreciation Dinner will be on Monday, May 15 at 6:30 p.m. Happy Hour will start at
5:45 p.m. A signup sheet was passed around at March’s meeting and will also be available at April’s
meeting. The price for the dinner will be between $23.00-$23.50. The cost per member is TBD. We will
know this cost by April’s meeting. The Club will be paying for the rest. If you are going, please bring either
a check made out to FPWC or cash to the April meeting and give it to either one of us. We hope to see
everyone there. It is a fun and relaxing evening.

Favors on Trays
The March favors were delivered prior to St. Patrick’s Day and we received a nice thank you card from
Jean Snook of Meals on Wheels. In a previous phone call, Jean had suggested that we deliver our April
favors on Monday, April 10th, so they can deliver them with a “ballpark meal” on Tuesday, April 11th, the

Helping Hands
We would like to thank Carrie for taking the food to Meals on Wheels. It was greatly appreciated.
Our collection for April will be the annual Metro Health Friends of Mothers and Infants baby shower. If you
could please bring unwrapped items. They are asking for: diapers, sleepers, onesies, diaper wipes,
blankets, outfits, etc. Sizes are for newborn to 18 months. Of course, any baby item or monetary gift is
greatly appreciated.

HS Scholarships
If you are interested in helping select the high school scholarship winners, please email me. Tentative
selection will be the end of April, probably the 27th or 28th. I will send out a list of request to pick a meeting
date. You do not have to be at the meeting to help read and rank the applications; however, all
applications are online this year, so you will need internet access.

OLD BUSINESS
The Fairview Park Youth Association gives us a huge Thank You!! To all who supplied bakery and
attended their Night at the Races in March. They are always grateful for our donation. As one of the
gentlemen who does the cooking said, “I can cook, but I sure cannot bake, so Thank You ladies!” They
gave us some advertising in their booklet as well. Maybe some of their wives will be interested in joining
our Club!
