INTRAMURAL SPORTS CODE OF CONDUCT
The intramural sports program exists to promote positive social interaction and fellowship within the Valor student community.
Although everyone is encouraged to play to the best of their ability and to make every effort to win the game, the spirit of fair
play and sportsmanlike conduct is paramount. Participants must adhere to the following expectations:
A. In all circumstances, participants must respect people, respect property, and preserve the learning environment.
B. Each team is permitted to select a team name and may also design team t-shirts. All team names and t-shirt designs are
subject to approval by Mr. Watson. Athletic gear may be worn for intramural matches, but may ONLY be worn in the
Athletic Building. Absolutely NO athletic gear is permitted in the Academic Building and/or Valor Arts Center.
C. Participants are expected to conduct themselves in a sportsmanlike manner at all times. Webster’s defines
sportsman/sportswoman as “a person who can take a loss or defeat without complaint, or victory without
gloating, and who treats their opponents with fairness, generosity, courtesy, etc.” Sportsmanship is defined as
those “qualities and behavior befitting a sportsman” This is further defined as:
1. Abiding by the letter and the spirit of the rules of play;
2. Treating opponents with courtesy and generosity;
3. Playing his or her best but never losing sight of the fact that it is a game which was designed primarily
for enjoyment;
4. Winning and losing with dignity and respect.
D. Unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated. By definition, therefore, a person who is not demonstrating
sportsmanship is one who is unfair, lacks generosity, and is a poor loser. Conduct which does not demonstrate
sportsmanship would be that which lacks grace in the acceptance of results. Examples of unsportsmanlike
conduct which are unacceptable are:
1. Persistently questioning officials in regard to their decisions.
2. Making derogatory remarks about or to officials and/or players (remarks which are profane are of
particular concern).
3. Making obscene or objectionable demonstrations or dissent.
4. Conduct which seeks to intimidate or deceive officials.
5. Employing unnecessarily rough tactics against an opposing player.
6. Refusing to abide by an official’s decision.
7. Shoving, striking, or otherwise threatening participants and/or officials.
Your signature below indicates that you have read and agree to enforce the Valor Intramural Sports Code of
Conduct at all times.

VALOR INTRAMURAL SPORTS
RULES OF GAMEPLAY
DODGEBALL
1. Each match has 2 referees, both stationed at the centerline, to help facilitate the game. Referees
start the game, confirm hits and catches, and count ball possession time.
2. Each match begins with 6 players for each team positioned near the ends of the centerline. During
the opening rush (when the game starts), you may only grab the balls to your right.
3. You are out if: 1) you step on or over a sideline or centerline; 2) a thrown live ball hits your body;
and 3) you throw a live ball and it is caught by an opponent.
4. A thrown live ball can only hit out 1 player. Thrown balls that hit the ground, the wall, other balls,
or other objects before hitting the opponent are considered dead balls, and are ineligible to hit
players out.
5. You may block a thrown ball with a held ball. However, if you drop the blocking ball during the act
of blocking, or if you fail to make a clean block (as in the thrown ball still ends up hitting or grazing
your body afterwards), you are out.
6. If you are out, line up on the side in the order you got out (think of it as being in a “resurrection”
line). If your teammate catches a ball, the player at the start of your team’s resurrection line comes
back into play after touching the wall (the teammate must be in the line at the time of the catch to
be eligible to be brought back in).
7. You can only hold a ball for 10 seconds, afterwards, it will be considered dead. Dead balls need to
be rolled over immediately to the other team.
8. If the game comes down to 1 player per side, they have 10 seconds to hit each other out; if not,
"Showdown" comes into effect. The game is paused, each player gets two balls, two balls are lined
up at the ends of the centerline, and the centerline is dissolved. The first player to get the other
player out wins.
9. Have fun, shake hands, make friends and be spirited!
