Melon Salad With Honey–Lime Dressing
Nothing is quite as refreshing as cold melon on a hot summer day. This fruit salad will be so
popular at your next event, you will see the bottom of the bowl before you know it! Dice one
cantaloupe, one honeydew, and one small seedless watermelon, removing any seeds or melon
rind. Place all of the fruit into a large bowl. Finely chop 1⁄4 cup of fresh mint leaves and sprinkle
over the top of the fruit. In a small bowl, whisk together 1⁄3 cup honey and 1⁄4 cup freshly–
squeezed lime juice. Pour dressing over fruit and gently toss to coat. Cover and refrigerate to chill.
Serve cold.

Fun Facts About Left–Handers
Did you know that August 13th is International Left–Handers Day? In honor of this quirky holiday,
here are some interesting facts about left– handed folks. Lefties are often better at multitasking
and are more likely to pursue creative careers. They make especially good tennis players (almost
40% of the top tennis pros are lefties). It is said that left– handed college graduates go on to
become more wealthy than right–handed graduates. They are better at 3D perception and seeing
underwater. And, out of the seven most recent U.S. presidents, four have been lefties, including
President Barack Obama.

This year’s Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil represent a
season of change and renewal for athletes and spectators alike.
For the first time in Olympics history, the Games are being held in
South America and in a Portuguese-speaking country. Golf and
rugby are making a comeback in Rio, chosen from among the
seven sports whose federation leaders applied to the International
Olympic Committee to be included in 2016. Golf was last
included in the 1904 Summer Games in St. Louis, Missouri, while
rugby was last included in the 1924 Games in Paris, France.
In addition to these firsts, Kosovo and South Sudan are new
additions to this year’s list of competing countries. For these
countries, only recently declared independent, the 2016
Games represent hope and opportunity. South Sudan’s
National Olympic Committee chair, Wilson Deng Kuoirot, reflects
that efforts to rebuild South Sudan’s sports infrastructure, after
months of the civil war conflict, have fostered a sense of unity
among the nation’s sixty-four tribes.
The Rio Games take place between August 5 and 21 and
feature more than 15,000 athletes from 206 countries who
will be competing in 28 sports.
OLYMPICS FUN FACTS
Olympic-level female gymnasts train an average of 4 to 6
hours a day, 6 days a week.
The pankration, an event in the ancient Olympics in
Greece, was a particularly brutal sport that combined
moves similar to those in modern wrestling and boxing, but
without the regulations that determine the tactics today’s
competitors can use. Ancient pankration disallowed foul
play such as biting and eye-gouging, but competitors
resorted to these tactics anyway to gain an advantage
over their opponents.
Netflix and YouTube are streaming a number of films about
the Summer Games, including Prefontaine, Chariots of Fire,
Without Limits, Berlin ‘36, and Munich. These films feature
fictional and historical storylines, and are sure to inspire the
champion in everyone.
