LOISABACODEOFCONDUCT
Inordertomaintainprimewildlifehabitatandapleasantexperienceforall,Loisabareservestherightto
grantaccessandmayrequireanyoneperceivedtobecausingadisturbanceordamagetotheenvironment
toleaveLoisaba.
GENERALCONDUCT
• Walkingisprohibited,unlessguests/residentsareguidedbyanauthorised,armedguidewithappropriate
knowledgeofwalkingwith“dangerousgame”.Bywalkingwithoutsuchanarmedguideguestsacceptall
suchrisksandpersonallyacceptallliability.
• Wildlifealwayshasrightofway.
• Donotlightfires,exceptthosecontrolledbylodgestaffand/ormanagement.
• Donotdiscardlitterorcigarettebuttsanywhereotherthaninadesignatedbin.
• Be quiet and considerate when viewing wildlife, keep a sensible distance away and ask your driver to
switchofftheengine.
• Take care when visiting the ‘wildlife viewing blinds’ – there may well be wildlife very close by. An
authorisedguidemustalwaysbepresentduring‘blind’visits.
• Spotlightscanbedisturbingtowildlifesousethemsensitivelyandresponsibly.Donotshinedirectlyinto
eyesforanylengthoftime.Redfiltersarecompulsory,andwhitelightsarestrictlyforbidden.
• Donotdamageorremoveanyflora,fauna,stones,animalremainsorartifactsofanykind.
• Useofmobilephonesduringgamedrivesorwhendrivingisdiscouraged.
• Nofirearms,spears,orbowsandarrowsofanykindaretobecarriedwithoutthespecificknowledgeand
authorizationoftheLoisabaWildlife/SecurityManager.
• Collectionoffirewoodisprohibitedwithoutpriorpermissionofthemanagement.
• ReportanyconcernsorcontraventionsofthiscodetoanyseniorLoisabastaff,ortotheLoisabaControl
Room.
VEHICLES
• Observethemaximumspeedlimitof40kph.
• Anygamedrivesaretobeconductedwith/byauthorisedindividualsonly.
• GamedrivevehiclescarryingLoisabapayingguestshaverightofwayandManagement/residentvehicles
shallbeconsiderateinthisrespect.
• Gameviewingvehiclesshouldpullofftothesideoftheroad/trackwhilegameviewing.
• Wildlifesurroundedbyvehiclesisunpleasantandcancausedistresstotheanimals.Astrictmaximumof
two vehicles viewing an animal at any one time is to be maintained. Be considerate of other vehicles
waitingtoviewwildlife,andavoidmonopolisation.
• Unlessgamehasapproachedthevehicle,thedistancethatavehicleshouldkeepfromgameisaminimum
20meters.
• Only4x4vehicles,whichareshadesofgreenorbrownincolour,arepermitted.Saloon4x4vehiclesand
mini-busesareprohibited.RareexceptionstothismayoccurduringeventsauthorizedbyManagement.
• Neverfeedwildlifefromyourvehicle,inthewildoratyourlodge/house.Itwillleadtounnecessary
dependenceandpossiblyresultineventualharmtotheanimal.
SAFETY
• Onlywalkawayfromyourlodge/camp/house/vehicleinthecompanyofaguidearmedwitharifleof
at least .762 / .308 calibre and who is authorised by the Chief Executive Officer or Wildlife / Security
Managerandcompetentinhandling“dangerousgame”.
• Armedguidesmusthaveavalidfirearmslicensefortheappropriateweapon.
• Running for exercise is only permitted when accompanied by a vehicle and authorised armed
guide/ranger.
CAMPING
• Campingisrestrictedtodesignatecampsites,byauthorisedoperators.
• Camp managers are to check in with Control Room on arrival and departure to have the camp site
inspectedbyanauthorizedrepresentativeofLoisaba.Aclearancecertificatewillbeissuedandfiledin
theLoisabaControlRoom.
• Loisabawillprovidearangeratcampsiteswheninusebyanoperator.
• Campersmustremoveallnon-biodegradablewaste.
• Firewoodmaynotbecollected.ItcanbeprovidedbyLoisabauponrequest.
PEOPLEANDCUSTOMS-VISITORSTOKOIJA/KIRIMONCOMMUNITIES
• Throughtrafficmustproceeddirectlyalongthepublicaccessroadstothesecommunities.
• Ifyouwouldliketophotographpeople,pleaseasktheirpermissionfirst.
• It is recommended that sweets or money are not given to children - it encourages begging and is
demeaning.
• IdeallyaLoisabastaffmemberortourismpartneraccompanieseachvillagevisittoensurebestconduct
andpracticesareused.
TRAVERSING
• Pedestriantraffic,notincludingguidedtourists/visitors,willbekepttoaminimumwithinLoisaba.
• NopedestrianmovementwithinLoisabawillbeallowedatnightbetween1800and0700hrs.
• Motorcyclesarenotpermitted(incl.bodabodataxis).Loisabaworkrequiringmotorcyclesmaybeused
forfencing,andlivestockmanagementandotherofficialmanagementduties.
AVIATION
• No aircraft will be operated within the vicinity of tourist camps or lodges, unless under exceptional
circumstancessuchasfirefightingorduringsecurityrelatedincidents.
• No aircraft will operate below 1,500 ft. AGL overhead the Conservancy except during approach for
landing,takeoff,formanagementpurposesorunderexceptionalcircumstancessuchasfirefightingor
duringsecurityrelatedincidents.
• Helicopters will take the shortest and quickest route into and out of pick up points within Loisaba,
attainingaminimumaltitudeof1,500ftAGLassoonaspossible.
