This issue we are profiling our newest director, Dawn Mitchell.
Dawn lives with her husband Clint south of Glentworth, and
together they have raised three children, and run a large ranch with
cows, horses and a few chickens. Dawn also stays very busy with
being a registered massage therapist with the Sask Massage
Therapy Association for the past 29 years. Dawn looks forward to
serving her community by being on the Lafleche CU Board of

An Extensive Branch Network Designed to Serve
Members Better - That’s credit unions CONNECT
Some believe there is a lack of connectivity among credit
unions in this province; that you can only conduct your
financial business at your local credit union branch. It is with this misconception in mind that Saskatchewan
credit unions have partnered to form credit unions CONNECT, a convenient way for credit union members
to conduct their financial transactions at Saskatchewan credit union branches without additional costs.
The list of financial services accessible through credit unions CONNECT is long and varied:
• Account Inquiries
• Magnetic Card PIN selection services
• Deposits
• Cashing of cheques
• Withdrawals
• Bill Payments
• Transfers
• Loan Payments
• Chip Card PIN selection services
• Purchases of money orders and drafts
Saskatchewan credit unions look forward to exploring additional opportunities to work with each
other to further improve the way they serve members. For more information visit

What is a board member?
Board members are elected by, and accountable to, credit union members. They are guardians and must
ensure sound management. The board serves as a liaison between membership and the organization that
serves them. The board represents the interests of the members, sets policies and oversees the general
operation of the credit union. The board does not actively participate in day-to-day operations, but rather
ensures sound management. One misconception of credit unions is that the board has a say on loan
applications. We can assure you that they do not! We have qualified loans staff and management that
maintain the hands on responsibility for day-to-day operations. All loans are approved in our offices either
by lending staff, management and/or an Internal Credit Committee.
In exercising his or her powers and fulfillment of duties, directors shall:



Act honestly and in good faith with a view to the best interests of the credit union;
Exercise the care, diligence and skill that a reasonable prudent person would exercise in comparable situations;
Comply with the credit union act, the regulations, the articles and bylaws, and cause the credit union to comply
with this act, the regulations, the articles and bylaws, the orders of the registrar and the Credit Union Deposit
Guarantee Corporation (DGC), and with the standards of sound business practices.
