Computing Department
The Computing department currently comprises two full-time members of staff, including the
Head of Department. The school has several computing suites and all computing lessons are
taught in two of these rooms. Each of the dedicated computing suites is equipped with an
interactive whiteboard to facilitate demonstrations and presentations. All the school uses the
computer rooms widely and students have access to the facilities during break and lunchtime.
At Key Stage 3, all students have a 1-hour computing lesson per week. Students study a variety
of topics, which encompass computer science, digital literacy and ICT. Topics covered include
website creation, learning about hardware & software, programming in Scratch & Python.
At Key Stage 4, there are typically 2 or 3 classes of students in each year group who choose to
study Computer Science.
A level Computer Science is offered to Sixth Form students. At both GCSE & A level, the
department uses AQA as the examining board. In addition to the timetabled lessons, the
department runs various clubs including Raspberry Pi and app development.
The post arises due to the promotion of the current post holder. We therefore seek to appoint
an inspirational teacher capable of teaching Computer Science up to A level. The successful
candidate should be able to enthuse both staff and students.
