Super bowl
reading
challenge
Dear Parents,
We are starting a new reading activity today. This activity is our classroom
Super Bowl Challenge. It is a friendly competition to see which player can score the
most points by the end of each nine weeks by reading and responding at home.
Student Responsibility:
1. Each student is to read for 20 minutes each night and document their reading
on the official Super Bowl Scorecard sheet. Color one football whenever you
read for 20 minutes and have a parent sign to verify that you have read.
2. Students will then cut out each football card, which represents 20 minutes of
reading and return to school the following day so we can keep track of the daily
points scores. Each football you color will move down the field 5 yards.
3. Each time your team reaches the opponents goal line you will receive 7 points
and a chance to earn an extra point. Field goals will be earned when you have
filled out each of your the Main Idea summary parts on the cards. (Writing in
complete sentences using correct punctuation.
Parent Responsibility:
Your part (the parent) is to sign one football card for each 20 minutes your
child reads for verification. Your child then cuts out each signed football card off
the sheet and returns it to the classroom. Please read with your child daily. Your
child will then move their player down the field towards the goal line.
Happy Reading!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Cole
