All three schools played outside and while building friendships

March 31st, 2016
Dear PS 64, PS 311 Lucero, PS 294 Walton Avenue Parents and Partners
Thank you for taking time again to learn what we have done and will do together
soon to further encourage wellness in your school. Parents and students have
many opportunities to learn, share, and initiate programs through our monthly
Wellness Meetings that meet on Tuesday afternoon, through after-school sports
teams, garden club, cooking classes, and special events.
The community came together in March for the Community Garden Build-out in
the recess yard led by Edible Schoolyards and FoodCorp. We will come together
on April 19th for an All-Schools Wellness Meeting in the school library and on
April 22nd in the cafeteria for the Earth Day Café Day.
This month all schools participated in Wellness in the Schools (WITS) Spring
Potato Labs. Students prepared roasted herb potatoes, while learning about
benefits of eating more whole plants and roasting over frying. They took recipes
with them so that you can make it again together. If you wish to learn more about
the labs, or volunteer, please tell your schoolʼs Parent Coordinator.
Coach Lashawn tells us:
All three schools played outside and while building friendships. Every
schools played soccer. PS 311’s intense games were fun-filled while all
ages built on teamwork and sportsmanship skills. PS 294 enjoyed soccer
shootouts. In their first modified soccer games, upper grades competed
while working on communication skills. PS 64 students started, facilitated,
and monitored their own games. I look forward to more games and growth
across all schools.
Please ask your schoolʼs Parent Coordinator details about April School Menus,
Wellness Meetings, and WITS Labs.
