The Zurich Graduate School in Mathematics is a joint venture of the mathematics departments at the
ETH and the University of Zurich. The research areas of the doctoral program are Algebra and
Topology, Analysis, Discrete Mathematics, Geometry, Insurance Mathematics, Mathematical Finance,
Mathematical Physics, Number Theory, Numerical Analysis and Applied Mathematics, Operations
Research, Probability Theory, Scientific Computing, Statistics.
The Zurich Graduate School in Mathematics offers a broad spectrum of activities fur further
qualification including graduate courses, research seminars, lectures, workshops, summer schools,
conferences and international cooperation and exchange.

PhD Positions
The Zurich Graduate School in Mathematics has a large number of PhD positions in all research areas. Succesful applicants are offered
a teaching assistantship for the duration of their studies.
For outstanding applicants the Zurich Graduate School in Mathematics has a limited number of one-year scholarships without any
teaching duties.
Language Courses
Lectures are given in English or German, with many of the more advanced classes being held in English. However, a good knowledge
of German is a requirement for a teaching assistantship.
The Zurich Graduate School in Mathematics offers intensive German language courses specially designed for its graduate students.

At the start of the 3-year doctoral program a student is required to have a master’s or a diploma degree in mathematics
or applied mathematics.
