MATCH REPORT
Sunday XI v St Marys Green St Green Cricket Club
Result – Won by 147 runs
A bowler’s day in blazing sunshine. The sun was out with blue sky it was the perfect weather
for a game of cricket. The toss came about and I won it as usual and decided to bat. Opening
up with Ben “gave away 6 byes” Clarkson and Chris “duck in the 3s” White we sure had to
get off to a good start. Yet again we did. Starting like a train before Whitey was bowled
because it was too quick for him. That brought George “only takes great catches” Fuller. But
the partnership was short lived when George was caught yet again for 10. Bringing Andrew
“experienced” Groves and I had high expectations for these 2 to get a lot of runs. But I was
wrong again; Bubba was given out LBW for 6. This meant the fun started. Staring Alex
“chucky” Watts and his mongoose. Although I didn’t realise we were playing a test match,
block miss block block miss smash to the boundary 1 run. It was boring cricket and when rat
finally got run out for 13 as expected it was a relief. Then as Ben so followed back to the
pavilion it meant it was up to Wattsy and Robbo to form and little partnership. But that also
didn’t last long before Wattsy was caught again. Meaning Jon “only get 4 overs” Marle to
join up with Robbo. They made a little partnership before Robbo was caught. This only
means one thing bring out the might batsman in me. A solid few first balls which included
defending out a leg stump Yorker. A few overs went by and some good running between me
a Jon meant we were going along nicely. I got off the mark with a well-placed edge to 3rd
man. But after our 25 partnership could go on further good was bowled by a good ball.
Meaning Matt “fries” Andrews and he saw out the remainder of the over. First ball of the
new over I nick one behind for 3. A well-deserved and solid 3. Leaving the finish up to Big
Mac and Fries but it wasn’t too long before Ben tried his big shot over to cow corner and
was bowled. Meaning we ended up on 179 all out.
Yet another fantastic OCC tea we opened up with Big Mac and Jon Marle. It wasn’t too long
before Ben claimed his first victim. Second ball of the over and the batsman was done for
pace and bowled off stump. But Jon also wanted to get into the action and he got his first
wicket with a stone dead LBW. Ben cleared didn’t want to be out done and not too long
before he got his second wicket. That very ball I moved Bubba from gully into second slip
and that is where the ball went to. Straight into his buckets low down. A good catch it was.
Jons 4 overs were done and I had to bring myself on but in Bens last over he pulled out a
magical delivery which the batsman could nothing about. So he hit it straight to Matt. 4
down. The chance for me to get 5 wickets. First over and first ball I moved Whitey out of
gully and that ball it might have gone to him but instead went wide of point where he was

fielding. The came back for the second but it was too late he had thrown the ball in and ben
had wiped the bails off. Next ball a bowled a jaffa and the batsman tried to sweep it and top
edged it to Ben McCracken at short fine leg. He was a gonna. Team hat trick next ball. I
come in to bowl, up to the crease and it was tossed up outside off stump. Ohh a play and a
miss. Next ball was another dot before the final ball a produced the doosra which had the
batsman confused and it was too late for him to think. He was bowled through the gate. A
fantastic first over with 3 wickets in it and 1 run. Matt came on to bowl for the first time in a
long time and didn’t give anything away. No runs what’s so ever. A few overs went and no
wickets but Matt broke that when he bowled a slower one and George fuller done the rest
at mid-on. Into the last wicket and a few runs went and the 5th ball I had the last batsman on
strike. Float it up and trap him in front of middle. That was it all over as I claimed my 3rd
wicket and ended up with 2.5 over 3-6. They were all out for 37. Not what I expected. A
decent day’s work. Bring on next Sunday.
