Technology Used Ethically and Appropriately
 Copyright Laws
 Defined as: Legal protection of a person’s published work
(i.e.—music, books, artwork, internet websites, etc.).
 Students will identify material that is allowed to be reproduced
and that which is not.
 Students will explain the laws and their consequences.
 Teachers will abide by copyright laws to set an example.

 Appropriate Websites
 Defined as: A legitimate copyrighted
website, that is suitable for the age of the
student.
 Students will demonstrate how to properly
cite use of computer sources.
 Students will distinguish the difference
between reliable and non-reliable sources.
Equal Opportunity of Computer Access
 Each student will have the same opportunity
as other students regarding computer access.
 During computer class, each student will have
access to their own computer.
 In the classrooms, there will be one computer for
every five students.
 The computer lab will be open for an hour before
and after school for those who do not have access
to computers at home.
Students who do not have access to a computer at
home can go to the local public library to complete
their homework.

 As a teacher, we are responsible for the
following:
 Being prepared to guide the students through the
learning process using technology.
 Providing a newsletter to keep the parents updated.
 Keeping a self evaluation journal about what
technology works and does not work for the
students.
 Keeping good relationships with everyone involved
in the learning process.
National Standards for Students
 As a student, they are responsible for the following:
 Showing a working understanding of various technology
systems.
 Following citation rules and using technology properly.
 Collaborating with special tools to produce creative work and
enhanced learning.
 Using various media formats to effectively communicate to
many audiences.
 Collecting data and reporting results using technology.
 Solving problems and making informed decisions using their
knowledge of technology.
State Standards for Students
 Students will describe how technology affects
their society for ethical use.
 Students will locate technology that is readily
available to them and use it properly.
 Students will demonstrate their understanding
by using the technology that they find to
research, organize, apply and communicate
that information.
