About Flash Player settings

SAC eLearning Flash Player and CDROM Courses Introduction SAC eLearning courses use the Adobe Flash Player. The latest versions of Flash Player – from 8 onwards – have security settings that may prevent ‘local’ Flash files (that is, files on a CD or on the hard drive of your computer) from communicating with the internet, or from linking to web pages on the CD or hard drive, without your permission. There is no security risk from SAC courses. However, if you have Flash Player version 8 or above, you may find that the standard security settings are preventing some features of a course from working. These features might include: the glossary in some courses, the ‘close’ button in some types of window, and some links to pdf files and web pages. The Flash Player should warn you about this the first time you try to carry out a blocked operation, and allow you to adjust the security settings, but this doesn’t always happen. In any case, it is worth knowing how to adjust your Flash Player settings without waiting for these warnings to appear. It is a very straightforward procedure. In order to adjust the Flash Player settings, you have to be connected to the internet. The adjustments are carried out in the ‘Flash Player Settings Manager’ on the Adobe web site. N.B. You will not need to adjust the Flash Player for on line courses. Testing for Flash Player version New SAC eLearning courses have a link on the main index that will take you to some information about Flash Player, including a test for your Flash Player version... Alternatively, if you click your right mouse button over any Flash file, you will see a menu that includes the Flash Player version...

It will be called ‘sacindex.htm’ on recent SAC courses. The index page will open in your browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc.). You will see its address in the address bar. In this example it is ‘D:\sac\sac index.htm’... In some courses you will find that the main index is in the 'root' CD directory in the example below, the address is 'D:\sacindex.htm'... 'D:\' is the CD drive. The address that you need for the Settings Manager is what you see in the address bar, not including the actual file name.
