Halver, 18 June 2015 – At the SPS IPC Drives 2014 in Nuremberg, the connector- and housing
specialist ESCHA presented connectivity for power applications. The 4-pole M12x1 connectors
are predestinated for power transmission and are available as of now. With the newly
developed products identified as ‘Power S‘ or ‘Power T‘, ESCHA offers a consistent- and a
qualitatively high-grade M12x1-connectivity portfolio for sensors-, data-, and power supply.
The trend moves towards compact power supply via M12x1-interface
As electronic devices are becoming increasingly more compact, demand for an adequate
compact power supply has recently been rising continuously. Numerous manufacturers tend to
resort to the industry-proven M12x1-interface. ESCHA has new connection- and junction cables
as well as flanges on offer providing for a reliable power transmission via the standardized
M12x1-interface (according to IEC 61076-2-111).
All components have been basically redesigned and meet the IP67, IP68 and IP69 high
requirements and thereby fulfilling UL 2237. Due to a connection cross-sectional area up to
2.5mm², the products allow for a large extension of power distribution; a further advantage –
especially in case of direct-current distribution – is the slight voltage drop in contrast to the small
cross-sectional area.
M12x1-round connector with S- or T-coding types
On the market, two various coding types have prevailed in the field of M12x1-power
transmission:

Connectors with S-coding type are particularly adapted to alternating-current applications
(AC-applications of up to 12A / 630V). Hereunder and among others, compact- and
decentral components e.g. motors or frequency convertors fall within this category.

For direct-current applications (DC-applications of up to 12A / 63V), connectors with Tcoding type are applied. Thus, e.g. field-bus components, power supplies or small motors
can be supplied with power.
With ‘Power S’ and ‘Power T’, ESCHA has the right flange as well as the connector in straightand angled versions, female or male for all applications.
Variable junction solutions for field power-distribution
In future, connection- and junction cables – equipped with further components – are to be
extended to a comprehensive product line providing for a structured field power-distribution. In
the long run, ESCHA is pursuing a wiring system including solutions for device interfaces,
switch-cabinet junctions, and power distribution. Moreover, the proposed standard for M12x1round connectors for power transmission includes additional coding types and other polarities
which will also be in focus of further development.
