Age Grade Rugby
Handbook
Season 2014-15
1
Dear Parents and Players
Welcome to Richmondshire RUFC Juniors.
You join us at a very exciting time in our Club’s history. For over 30 years, the Club
has existed in pubs, clubs, hotels and most recently, in our third-hand portakabin
located on Theakston Lane. We are delighted to have moved into our new clubhouse
which boasts the best facilities in North Yorkshire.
The clubhouse will provide us with a springboard to recruit more players; recruit and
train more coaches, team managers and volunteers, so that the Club continues to
move onwards and upwards in the future.
I am delighted that we are able to offer our first ever micro section for players aged
under 6 years old; an under 13 and under 15 girls section and provide opportunities
to play rugby up to the age of 16.
We would love to have more players and parents to be involved in our Club, so
please do not be shy. The more people we have involved the more jobs we can do
more effectively.
Please contact Jon Moulding on 07826 628979 or myself on 07711 929736.
Here is to a great season.
Best wishes
Mark Bisicker
Junior Chair.

Junior Team Selection.
At Richmondshire RUFC we aim to develop squads of players who are
knowledgeable of a variety of positions on the field of play, equally fit and capable of
playing Rugby Union.
To develop strength in depth we aim to provide equal inter-club playing time for all
players within a squad as long as they are:







Fully paid up members of the club.
Registered with the RFU and have a completed photo ID.
Regular players within the squad.
Free from any period of suspension from playing for either school or club.
Suitably equipped for the game including boots with safety studs, a gum
shield etc.
Medically cleared to play.
Cleared to play with the support of their parents or carers.
Cup competitions or Inter-Club Festivals.
Team coaches and managers reserve the right to select a team that they consider to
be their strongest throughout a Yorkshire or Durham Cup campaign or during an
Inter-Club Festival with a view to winning the competition.
Concerns over selection should be addressed to individual team managers or
coaches initially and then to the Junior Club Secretary or Chairperson.

YORKSHIRE RUGBY FOOTBALL UNION &
YORKSHIRE FEDERATION of REFEREES’ SOCIETIES
Richmondshire RUFC subscribes to and supports RUGBY UNION’S CORE VALUES
- RESPECT, DISCIPLINE, ENJOYMENT SPORTSMANSHIP and TEAMWORK.
CODE OF CONDUCT

All spectators must stay behind the barriers so as not to be in close proximity
to the touch lines. This applies to all games no matter what level or on which day
they are played.

No-one, apart from players and match officials are allowed onto the field of
play unless specifically authorised by the referee.

Replacements, coaches, medics and water carriers must comply with game
regulations as to the areas to which they are restricted during the match, namely
either marked technical areas or those areas designated by the Match Official as
being technical areas; if there are no areas marked then everyone must stay outside
the playing area. In league and cup games, clubs will be expected to provide a 4 th
official to take responsibility for ensuring everyone stays in the technical areas.

Players, coaches, club officials and spectators must support and respect the
REFEREE and comply with his or her instructions.

Match Officials should not be approached for discussion immediately following
the final whistle, which includes entering their changing room. All sensible postmatch conversations should take place in the club house after a reasonable time has
elapsed.

The Club should provide a referee liaison officer, separate from the team
coaches, to greet the referee and support him or her if abuse or bad behaviour
arises.

Club officials, players, members and spectators must understand that bad
behaviour and abuse at all matches including ‘Age Grade’ can have a serious
negative effect on the fortunes of the whole club.

Team Managers and Coaches are official representatives of the Club who set
a clear example to players and spectators by their own conduct and adherence to
this code.
