REFLECTIONS FROM THE PASTOR
One of the seniors came bouncing into my house the other day all excited and happily announcing, “I’m going to
graduate. I passed all my classes. I’m going to graduate.” Oh, the excitement. He promptly lost several games of ping
pong, but he was still excited.
It’s that time of the year where kids are excited for graduation and for summer vacation. It’s time to take a break, go
to the lake, hang out with friends, do some fishing, open the windows, and let our hair down. We have more and more
daylight. The last of the snow has finally disappeared. The fish are biting.
We have great summers here in North Dakota. Last year I think summer was on a Tuesday (badumdum).
In the excitement of the summer as we take time to relax, to enjoy the weather, to play -please include time to
worship God, both formally in worship and informally. Give thanks to God for the beautiful weather, for the rain, for the
sunshine, for the ability to play. Give thanks to God for the ability to worship.
Let the excitement of summer spread into our worship life.
CHURCH COUNCIL MEETING HIGHLIGHTS
May 17, 2017
 Noted that April attendance and offerings were up significantly over April 2016.
 Appointed Shelley Porter to fill out the remaining term vacated by Jeff Olson.
 MSC to approve a letter to Bishop Eaton regarding DAPL and the protests. The letter will be posted on
the bulletin board.
 Discussed the performance review of our janitor, Linda Mees.
 Noted that the Trinity River Band will be at Sunne on July 9th to lead worship.
 At the suggestion of the donor, MSC to sell $3,000 of our Microsoft shares in the seminary student
fund and apply the $3,000 to the capital campaign.
 Heard reports regarding various ministry teams.
 Assigned deacons and tellers for the month of June.

Community Worship on June 18
In conjunction with the Wilton All School reunion,
Sunne will take part in a community worship
service on June 18th at 11am at the First
Presbyterian Church in Wilton. We will not have
worship at Sunne on June 18th. Those wishing to
give their offering to Sunne are asked to use your
Sunne offering envelope or place your offering in
an envelope marked “Sunne”. Checks made
payable to Sunne will also go to Sunne.
MIDSUMMER PICNIC
Sunne Lutheran Church had its beginning
with the Swedish settlers in this area. The summer
holiday that the Swedes celebrated was the summer
solstice, Midsummer, on the 24th of June. No
matter what day of the week it fell on, the church
had a holiday. They had a potluck dinner, a
worship service, the youth made and sold ice cream,
the ladies of the church had an auction of things
they had made. It was truly a community affair.
The celebration was usually held in a farm yard or
picnic area.
This year, the Midsummer Worship and
Picnic will be Sunday, June 25th at Sunne. The
Sunne WELCA sponsors the Midsummer picnic.
Everyone is welcome to come at 10 a.m. for the
worship service and to bring something for the
potluck that follows worship. An auction will be
held as part of the festivities. Pies are welcome for
the auction. If you have items you would like to
donate, please contact Carlene Dockter at 734-6663.
Proceeds will be used to support Sunne’s Women of
the ELCA.

Our total debt, as of May 17, 2017,
is $60,664.54.
SIMPLY GIVING
Sunne is now able to offer a simple way of
giving to God’s ministry at Sunne. Through
Simply Giving, an electronic fund transfer
program, members and friends of Sunne can make
a monthly or semi-monthly gift directly from a
person’s checking or savings account into Sunne’s
account. This program is available no matter where
a person banks. For more information, please
contact Sunne Treasurer, SuAnn Olson at 258-3887.

Faith Adventure
Sunne Lutheran Youth will be taking part in the
2017 San Francisco Faith Adventure June 8th
through June 15th. Please keep the following

Recently there has been an increase of food waste
left in the pews. We can all appreciate that babies
and toddlers often need a snack to occupy them
