Scholarships
This list of scholarships is from the Office of Development on the campus of LIT. The Scholarship Committee, made up of faculty and staff, governs the
selection of scholarship recipients. The Office of Development governs the distribution of scholarship funds to recipients’ student accounts.

The Alice & Dalton Babineaux Sr. Scholarship Endowment is for students enrolled full time
pursuing a degree in Advanced Engine Technology, Computer Drafting Technology, Computer
Networking and Troubleshooting Technology, HVAC, Industrial Mechanics, Instrumentation, Utility
Line Technology, and Welding Technology. Must be a U.S. citizen. Must provide evidence of
financial need. Renewable if student reapplies. 2.5 or higher GPA required.
The Alice Cater Scholarship Endowment is for students enrolled full time pursuing a degree in
Real Estate. Renewable if student reapplies. 3.0 or higher GPA required.
The American Gas Association Scholarship Endowment is for students who have
successfully completed one semester of study and are enrolled full or part time pursuing a degree
or certificate program in Welding, HVAC, Process Operating, Instrumentation, or Natural Gas
related field of study. Renewable. 2.8 GPA or higher required.
The American Valve & Hydrant Scholarship Endowment is for students enrolled full
time pursuing a degree in Computer Networking and Troubleshooting, Computer Drafting,
Advanced Engine, and Industrial Mechanics. Renewable if student reapplies. 2.5 or higher GPA
required.
The Baron Banks scholarship is for students pursuing a degree in Process Operating
Technology. 2.5 or higher GPA required.
The BASF TOTAL Petrochemicals LLC Scholarship is for full time students enrolled in 12 hours
or more pursuing a degree in Instrumentation or Process Operating Technology. Renewable if
student reapplies. 3.0 or greater GPA required.
The Beaumont Foundation of America - Jon M. Huntsman, Sr. scholarship is for
1st year students pursuing a degree in Process Operating Technology or other Petrochemicalrelated fields. This scholarship is for underserved and/or first generation college students.
The Better Business Bureau Serving Southeast Texas Scholarship is for students enrolled
full or part time pursuing a degree in any course of study offered. Renewable if student
reapplies. 2.0 or higher GPA required.
The Charles R. & Peggy A. Banks scholarship is for students pursuing a degree in Process
Operating Technology. 2.5 or higher GPA required.
The Chevron Phillips Chemical Company scholarship is for students enrolled full or part time
pursuing a two year degree in Process Operating or Instrumentation. Preference will be given to
Region V high school graduates.
The Chief Pete Shelton Scholarship Endowment is for students who are enrolled full or part
time pursuing an associate degree or certificate program for Fire, Police, or EMT. Must pass a
physical examination including drug screen, pass a criminal background check, have a valid
driver’s license, and social security card. If served in the military must possess an honorable
discharge. Renewable if student reapplies. 2.5 GPA or higher required.
The Coastal Welding Supply scholarship is for students enrolled full or part time pursuing a
degree in Welding Technology. Renewable if student reapplies. 2.5 or higher GPA required.
The Collier Child Care scholarship is for students pursuing a degree in Child Care and
Development.
The Connie and Dr. Paul J. Szuch Scholarship Endowment is for students enrolled full or part
time pursuing a degree in any course of study offered. Exceptions may be made for a last semester
student who may not need to be full time to complete the requirements for graduation. 2.0 or higher
GPA required.
The Cynthia (Kay) Hurlbut Scholarship Endowment is for students enrolled full time pursuing
a degree in Medical Radiologic Technology. Exceptions may be made for last semester students
who may not need to be full-time to complete the requirements of graduation. Renewable if student
reapplies. 2.5 or higher GPA required. Preference given to Port Neches-Groves H.S. or Nederland
H.S. graduates.
The Dale E. Wagner Memorial Scholarship is for students enrolled full time pursuing a degree
in Instrumentation Technology who have completed one year of the curriculum and is planning to
return to complete the required course work. Exceptions may be made for a last semester student
who may not need to be full time to complete the requirements for graduation. Nonrenewable. 3.0
or higher GPA required.
The Deanna Stahl Scholarship Endowment is for students enrolled full or part time pursuing a
degree in any program of study that requires a mathematics course. 3.0 or higher GPA required
and received a grade no lower than a C in any college mathematics course previously
taken. Renewable if student reapplies.
The Del Papa Distributing Company Scholarship Endowment is for students enrolled full time
pursing a degree in Business or Marketing related fields. Exceptions may be made for last
semester students who may not need to be full time to complete the requirements for graduation.
Renewable. Preference given to a worthy Del Papa employee or employee family member
assuming all other criteria are met. 3.0 or higher GPA required.
The Dental Hygiene Alumni Scholarship Endowment is for students full or part time pursuing
a degree in Dental Hygiene. Renewable if student reapplies. 2.5 or higher GPA required.
The Dental Society of Southeast Texas Scholarship Endowment is for students enrolled full
time pursuing a degree in Dental Hygiene. Exceptions may be made for students enrolled in clinical
courses, and last semester students who may not need to be full time to complete the requirements
for graduation. 2.3 or higher GPA required.
The Donald T. Boumans Scholarship Endowment is for students enrolled full or part time
pursuing a degree in Instrumentation and Occupational Safety & Health. Renewable if student
reapplies. 2.5 or higher GPA required.
The Dr. Kenneth Shipper Scholarship Endowment is for students enrolled full or part
time pursuing a degree in any program of study offered. Renewable if student reapplies. 3.0 or
higher GPA
The Dr. Robert Krienke Scholarship Endowment is for students enrolled full time pursuing a
degree in any program of study offered. 3.0 or higher GPA required.
The Dupont Sabine River Works scholarship is for students enrolled full time pursuing a degree
in Process Operating Technology. Renewable. 3.0 or higher GPA required.
The Edmund P. Kuempel Scholarship program is for students enrolled full or part time pursuing
any Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, or Associate of Applied Science degree. Must have
completed 12 hours of course work transferable to LIT or from LIT. Must be a U.S. citizen and a
resident of Texas. Non-renewable 3.5 or higher GPA required.
The ExxonMobil Scholarship is for incoming first-year students enrolled full time pursuing a
degree in Process Operating Technology. Applicants must be a graduate of a Region V High
School, must agree to participate in an ExxonMobil sponsored-event, must enroll in LIT STEP
program and must be a United States citizen or Green Card holder. Renewable. 3.0 or higher GPA
required.
The Firestone Polymers scholarship is for students enrolled full time pursuing a degree in
Process Operating Technology. 3.0 or higher GPA required.
The Gail Cawley Showalter scholarship is for students enrolled full time pursuing a degree in
any degree or certificate in any academic program and is a single mother. 3.0 or higher GPA
required.
The Gardner Development Scholarship Endowment is for students enrolled full time pursuing
a degree in Instrumentation, Industrial Mechanics, and Welding. Renewable if student
reapplies. Must be a U.S. citizen residing in Beaumont, Port Arthur, or West Orange. 2.5 or higher
GPA required.
The Geer Memorial Scholarship Endowment is for students enrolled full or part time pursuing a
degree in any Technology program of study. Renewable if student reapplies. Recipient must be a
Vidor High School graduate or have resided in Vidor for 5 years. Preference is given to retired
Military or Welding program students. 3.0 or higher GPA required.
The Gisela Houseman Scholarship Endowment is for students enrolled full time pursuing any
degree at Lamar Institute of Technology. Exceptions may be made for last semester students who
may not need to be full time to complete the requirements for graduation. 2.5 or higher GPA is
required. Renewable if student reapplies. Preference given to Orange County, Texas residents.
The Golden Pass LNG Terminal L.L.C. Scholarship Endowment is for students enrolled full
time pursuing a degree in Process Operating Technology and Instrumentation
Technology. Exceptions may be made for last semester students who may not need to be full time
to complete the requirements for graduation. Renewable if student reapplies. Preference will be
given to a Sabine Pass High School graduate, Sabine Pass ISD faculty or administration family
member, or a Golden Pass LNG employee or family member. 2.0 or higher GPA.
The H R & R Zack Byrd Scholarship Endowment is for students enrolled full time pursuing a
degree in Process Operating Technology. Exceptions may be made for last semester students
who may not need to be full time to complete the requirements for graduation. Preference will be
given to a Sabine Pass High School graduate. Nonrenewable. 2.5 or higher GPA required.
The J.C. Garcia "Smiley" Memorial Scholarship Endowment is for students enrolled full or
part time pursuing any certificate or degree program offered. Recipient must verify financial
need. Renewable. 2.0 or higher GPA required.
The John Nicholas Brekel, Jr. Scholarship Endowment is for students enrolled full time
pursuing an Instrumentation Technology degree. Exceptions may be made for last semester
students who do not need to be enrolled full time to complete the requirements for
graduation. Renewable. 3.0 or higher GPA required. Preferences given to active military or
reservists.
The John Robert Mansinger Scholarship Endowment is for students enrolled full time pursuing
a degree in any academic program. Exceptions may be made for last semester students who
may not need to be full time to complete the requirements for graduation. Renewable. 2.5 or higher
GPA required.
The Jonathan Wolfe Scholarship Endowment is for students enrolled full time pursuing any
degree offered by LIT. One (1) Fire Academy (providing all other criteria are met and one (1) any
other major meeting criteria will be selected. Must be an incoming freshman to LIT graduating the
current year from Port Neches Groves High School. Non-renewable. 2.5 or higher GPA required.
The Libbie Campbell Nylin Scholarship Endowment is for students enrolled full or part
time pursuing a degree in Accounting Technology, Business & Computer Information Systems,
Child Care & Development, Management Development, Office Technology, Instrumentation,
Computer Drafting, or Computer Networking & Troubleshooting. Renewable if student reapplies.
Must be a U.S. Citizen and have financial need. 3.0 or higher GPA required.
The Linda Blackmon Scholarship Endowment is for students enrolled full time pursuing a
degree in any academic major. Exceptions may be made for last semester students who do not
need to be enrolled full time to complete the requirements for graduation. Preference given to
Maverick Communications employee family member. 2.0 or higher GPA required.
The LIT Alumni Association Scholarship Endowment is for students enrolled full time pursuing
a degree in all programs of study offered. Non-renewable. Must be a U.S. Citizen. 2.5 or higher
GPA required.
The Lamar Institute of Technology Health Information Management Association
scholarship is for students enrolled full time (with 12 hour of program specific classes) pursuing a
degree in Applied Science in Health Information Technology. Must be enrolled in LIT. Renewable
if student reapplies. 3.5 or higher GPA required.
The LIT Salute to the Real American Heroes scholarship is for students enrolled full or part
time pursuing a degree in Police, Fire, EMS, Homeland Security, or Criminal Justice. Recipients
must be able to pass a criminal history and background investigation as determined by the program
for which he or she is seeking admission. Non-renewable. 2.5 or higher GPA required.
The LIT Shoot-Out Scholarship Endowment is for students enrolled full time pursuing a degree
in any program of study offered. Exceptions may be made for last semester students who may
not need to be full time to complete the requirements for graduation. Renewable if student
reapplies. 2.5 or higher GPA required.
The Mamie McFaddin Ward Scholarship in the Health Sciences is for students enrolled full
time pursuing a degree in medical related associate degree programs. Renewable if student
reapplies. 2.5 or higher GPA required.
The Marsha Lanik Steffek Scholarship Endowment is for students enrolled full or part
time pursuing a degree in Office Technology Administration. Renewable if student reapplies. 3.0
or higher GPA required.
The Micki Carpenter Scholarship Endowment is for female students enrolled full or part time
pursuing a degree in any program of study offered. Renewable if student reapplies. Must be a U.S.
Citizen. Must provide evidence of financial need. 2.5 or higher GPA required.
The Nick Lampson Scholarship Endowment is for students enrolled full time pursuing a degree
in any program of study offered. Exceptions may be made for last semester students who do not
need to be enrolled full time to complete requirements for graduation. Renewable if student
reapplies. 3.0 or higher GPA required.
The Sabine Neches Chiefs' Association Annual scholarship is for students enrolled full or part
time pursuing a degree or certificate in Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic, a certificate in
Basic Fire Academy, or a certificate in Basic Peace Officer. Recipient must possess a valid driver's
license or Texas State Identification card, possess a valid social security card, and successfully
pass a criminal background check. Renewable is student reapplies. No minimum GPA required.
The Sam Kittrell Scholarship Endowment is for students enrolled full or part time pursuing a
certificate in the Regional Police Academy. Renewable if student reapplies. Police Academy
applicants are required to complete and pass an entrance examination before being considered
for acceptance into the Police Academy. Applicants must also meet minimum standards for entry
into the program.
The Samuel Lester Bean Scholarship Endowment is for students enrolled full time pursuing
any academic major offered. Exceptions may be made for last semester students who may not
need to be full time to complete the requirements for graduation. Renewable if student
reapplies. 2.5 or higher GPA required.
The Sidney Jones Scholarship Endowment is for students enrolled full time pursuing a degree
in any Industrial Technology Program. Renewable. 2.5 or higher GPA required.
The Smith-Hutson scholarship program is for students with established financial need and
academic potential who are seeking a degree certificate or an associate degree from LIT. Students
in all majors qualify to apply.
The Team Fabricators, LLC Scholarship is for students enrolled full or part time pursing a degree
in Welding. Renewable if student reapplies. Recipient of this scholarship will visit and take a short
tour of Team Fabricators' facility in Port Arthur, Texas. 2.5 or higher GPA required.
The Thomas J. Frank, Sr. Scholarship Endowment is for students enrolled full time pursuing a
degree in Accounting Technology, Advanced Engine Technology, Business & Computer
Information Systems, Computer Drafting, Computer Networking & Troubleshooting, HVAC,
Industrial Mechanics, Instrumentation, Office Technology, Utility Line, or Welding. Must be a U.S.
citizen. Must provide evidence of financial need. Renewable if student reapplies. 2.5 or higher
GPA required.
The Total Port Arthur Refinery Scholarship Endowment is for full time students pursuing a
degree in Process Operating, Industrial Mechanics, or Instrumentation. Exceptions may be made
for last semester students who do not need to be enroll full time to complete the requirements for
graduation. Preference may be given to Total Petrochemical employee or employee family
member if other criteria is met. Renewable if student reapplies. 2.7 or higher GPA required. .
The Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association Scholarship is for students enrolled in the
Lamar Institute of Technology Regional Police Academy. Must be a U.S. citizen. Must be able to
pass a criminal history and background investigation, and any other qualifications as determined
by the police academy program for which s/he is seeking admission. Renewable if student
reapplies. Preference will be given to Citizen Police Academy graduates, and members of the
Beaumont Police Department, Jefferson County Sheriff's Department, Port Arthur Police
Department, and their dependents. 3.0 or higher GPA required.
The P.E.O. Chapter CC scholarship is for female students enrolled full time pursuing a degree
or certificate in any program of study offered. Must be a U.S. or Canadian Citizen. Must have
completed one year of study. 3.0 or higher GPA required.
The Valero Port Arthur Refinery Scholarship Endowment is for students enrolled full time
pursuing a degree in Computer Drafting, Industrial Mechanics, Instrumentation, Occupational
Safety & Health Technology, Process Operating, or Welding. Exceptions may be made to last
semester students who do not need to be enrolled full time to complete the requirements for
graduation. Renewable if student reapplies. 2.5 or higher GPA required.
The Patti Harrigan Parrott Scholarship Endowment is for students enrolled full time pursuing a
degree in Dental Hygiene. Non-renewable. The recipient would be a student who has
demonstrated a high level of community involvement and participation, either with the school
community or outside the broader community, or both, or proven good citizenship decided by the
Scholarship Committee. 3.0 or higher GPA required.
The W. J. Budwine and M. Wayne Budwine Scholarship Endowment is for students enrolled
full time pursuing a degree in HVAC, Instrumentation, Process Operating, Utility Line Technology,
or Welding. Exceptions may be made for last semester students who do not need to be enrolled
full time to complete the requirements for graduation. Renewable if student reapplies. 2.5 or higher
GPA required.
The Phi Theta Kappa scholarship is for students pursuing a degree in any program of study
offered. Qualified candidates must have a 3.5 or higher GPA. Must be a member of Phi Theta
Kappa and participate in Beta Gamma Phi meetings and activities.
The William and Anna Marie Hartford Scholarship Endowment is for students enrolled full
time pursuing a degree in any of the programs of study offered. A 500-word essay on "Why I
Should Receive This Scholarship" must be completed. Renewable. 2.5 or higher GPA required
The Phillip E. Neff Scholarship Endowment is for students enrolled full time pursuing a degree
in any program of study offered. Exceptions may be made for last semester students who do not
need to be enrolled full time to complete the requirements for graduation. Renewable if student
reapplies. No minimum GPA is required.
The William C. Smith Memorial scholarship is for students enrolled full time pursuing any
associates degree offered. Recipient may also be last semester student who do not need to be
enrolled full time to complete the requirements for graduation. Student must be a Navy, Army, Air
Force, Marine, or Coast Guard veteran. 2.5 or higher GPA required.
The Presidential Scholarship is for students enrolled full or part time in a credit certificate or
degree program (preference will be given to full time students). Recipient must have completed at
least one semester in a chosen credit certificate or degree program. Must have a 2.5 or higher
GPA.
The William H. Windhorn Scholarship Endowment is for students enrolled full time pursuing a
degree in EMT Paramedic. Exceptions may be made to last semester students who do not need
to be enrolled full time to complete requirements for graduation. Preference will be given to BISD
Central High School graduate, assuming all other criteria are met. Must provide evidence of
financial need. 2.5 or higher GPA required.
The Radiology Scholarship Endowment is for students enrolled full or part time pursuing a
degree in Medical Radiologic Technology. Students must be admitted into the Radiologic
Technology Program and be enrolled in the Radiologic Technology Program.
The Respiratory Care Scholarship Endowment is for students enrolled full or part time pursuing
a degree in Respiratory Care. Renewable if student reapplies. Students must be accepted into the
Respiratory Care Program and be enrolled in the Respiratory Care Program.
The Rod Carroll Scholarship Endowment is for students enrolled full time pursing a Public
Service and Safety degree or LIT Regional Police Academy. Exceptions may be made to last
semester students who do not need to be enrolled full time to complete the requirements for
graduation. Renewable if student reapplies. 2.5 or higher GPA required.
The Ronnie Cessac Scholarship Endowment is for students enrolled full or part time pursuing
a degree in Instrumentation, Computer Engineering Technology, or Utility Line Technology.
Renewable if student reapplies. 3.0 or higher GPA required.
The Wilton P. & Effie Mae Hebert scholarship is for students enrolled full time pursuing an
associate degree or certificate for the Police Academy or Fire Academy. Must be a resident of Port
Neches or Nederland to qualify. Renewable. 2.5 or higher GPA required.
The Winnie and Jack Dishman Scholarship Endowment is for students enrolled full
time pursuing a degree in Computer Drafting, Computer Networking and Troubleshooting, HVAC,
Business Management, and Welding. Exceptions may be made for last semester students who
do not need to be enrolled full time to complete the requirements for graduation. Renewable if
student reapplies. 2.5 or higher GPA required.
The Zachry Group Inc. Scholarship Endowment is for students enrolled full or part
time pursuing a degree in Industrial Mechanics or Instrumentation. Nonrenewable. Must be a
Jefferson County high school senior and an incoming freshman. 2.0 or higher GPA required.
The Ronnie Hindsman scholarship is for students pursuing a degree in Utility Line Technology.
2.0 or higher GPA required.
