FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Luxemburg-Casco School District named to 7th Annual AP Honor Roll
Is one of just three Northeast Wisconsin school districts to earn honor, only back-to-back winner
LUXEMBURG, Wis. – For the second year in a row, the Luxemburg-Casco School District is the recipient of a
prestigious distinction which sets it apart from other educational bodies. The school was notified in January
2017 that it has been named by The College Board to the 7th Annual AP District Honor Roll, one of only 433
districts across the United States to achieve this accolade.
Among 23 Wisconsin school districts receiving AP Honor Roll honors this year, Luxemburg-Casco is one of
just three in Northeast Wisconsin (also Ashwaubenon and De Pere).
Only eight school districts in the state have earned AP Honor Roll recognition each of the last two years, and
just two (Pewaukee, 4, and Kohler, 3) maintain longer current streaks of being honored by The College Board.
Among the back-to-back recipients, Kohler is the closest in location to Luxemburg-Casco (64 miles south).
Inclusion on the 7th Annual AP District Honor Roll is based on the examination of three years of Advanced
Placement® data, from 2014-16. It recognizes school districts on three criteria: 1) Increasing participation and
access to AP (by 4-11 percent, depending on district size); 2) Increasing or maintaining the percentage of
minority students scoring 3+ on at least one AP Exam; and 3) Improved performance levels when comparing
the percentage of students in 2016 scoring a 3-or-higher to those in 2014, unless the district already has
attained a performance level at which more than 70 percent of its AP students are scoring a 3-or-higher.
“Congratulations to our high-school students, Principal Troy Haws and the entire team of outstanding
educators at Luxemburg-Casco High School,” said Luxemburg-Casco School District Superintendent Glenn
Schlender. “It’s wonderful that the continued efforts of our teachers to help a growing number of students
position themselves for college success have been recognized by The College Board. Students continue to
embrace these opportunities and make the most of them, which has shown in our high test results.”
The Advanced Placement® program provides students with the opportunity to take college-level courses
during their high-school years. U.S. colleges and universities often give placement and course credit to
students who achieve high scores on AP exams.

Luxemburg-Casco High School offers a total of 11 Advanced Placement® courses: Language and
Composition, Literature and Composition, U.S. History, Biology, Physics I & II, Calculus, Statistics, Computer
Science, Human Geography and Psychology. Two of those – Language and Composition, and Human
Geography – were added for the current, 2016-17 academic year.
The AP program continues to grow at a rapid rate at L-C H.S. Student participation has more than doubled
over the past five years, from 56 students in 2011-12 to 125 students in 2015-16, to where it represents
approximately one-fifth of the school’s students.
In the 2015-16 academic year, a total of 239 AP tests were taken by the 125 AP participants. Of the 125
students, 70.4 percent had a score of 3-or-higher.
“Honor Roll Districts defy the expectation that expanding access automatically results in a decline in the
percentage of exams earning scores of 3 or better,” said Greg Walker, vice president, Midwestern regional
office of The College Board, in notifying the Luxemburg-Casco School District of the honor. “Congratulations
to your staff and students!”
The College Board is an international, not-for-profit organization which is focused on connecting students to
college success and opportunity. Founded in 1900, its membership today consists of more than 6,000
educational institutions and is dedicated to promoting excellence in education. Each year, the College Board
helps more than 7 million students prepare for a successful transition to college through programs and
services, including the SAT standardized test and the Advanced Placement® Program. It has six regional
locations within the U.S., among them the Midwestern region office in Chicago, which serves 13 states.

The Luxemburg-Casco School District serves nearly 2,000 Northeast Wisconsin students annually through four schools:
the primary (4K-2) and intermediate (3-6) schools, both in Luxemburg; the middle school (7-8) in Casco; and the high
school (9-12) in Luxemburg. The district maintains a strong tradition of academic and extracurricular excellence while
preparing students to thrive in a global community. Located between Green Bay, Door County and Lake Michigan, the
educational community has been in existence since the early 1900s, with Luxemburg and Casco operating as separate
districts until they merged in 1968. More information may be found at http://www.luxcasco.k12.wi.us/home. “We Are
