Job Description Childcare Support Workers (Incl.Trainees|Students|MA|Volunteers) Description of Post Support workers are defined as workers who have delegated responsibility for providing care and support to children. Above all the children are at the club to enjoy themselves and have fun after a long day at school, it is our joint responsibility to ensure we work as a team to reach this goal. Minimum Requirements: SVQ 2 or equivalent and/or must be willing to undertake new/further qualifications as deemed necessary by SSSC for the post of Support Worker Registered member of PVG scheme ‐ Enhanced Check SSSC registered Responsible to: Manager, Assistant Manager Key Responsibilities of Post Administration Ensure that all policies and procedures are adhered to Work in partnership with the Manager and other staff to ensure the smooth running of the services Attendance at staff meetings and record minutes if requested (on a rota basis) Provide a good role model for all other staff and service users With regard to reporting any issues/complaints, please follow the line management structure. Failure to follow this may lead to disciplinary action Make record of new equipment received ensuring that inventory of equipment, CD’s, games and toys etc. is kept current Check your personal file daily Report any in setting issues to the Manger or Assistant Manager and record it to allow it to be taken forward to next staff meeting for discussion or record on issues form Ensure any paperwork you are required to return to Manager or that has been requested is time bound, is done so within the specified time period/request Provide information for club newsletter to the Manager in conjunction with other staff and children Before leaving at the end of each session you must ensure that all daily paperwork is completed or signed off Ensure all reporting and recording is carried out in line with procedure on the correct forms Completion of time sheets for overtime payments to be completed and handed to the Manager by 20th of the month During Session and Setting up Play Areas Escorting; ensuring that procedures are adhered to at all times and ensuring the reporting and recording of any incidents/issues on arrival at setting and completion of required reports Ensure the daily register is completed if you are escorting to/from Mile End Primary and any missing children are reported to the Manage immediately. This must be dealt with as a priority in line with procedure Organise cleaning / washing of toys, equipment, playroom and kitchen worktops Photo ID must always be worn Provide care, warmth and activities for the children Encourage participation of all the children in activities Help prepare and issue snack for the children, adhering to food hygiene procedures and promoting healthy eating and cleaning of dishes, tables etc. when done so activities can get underway prepare the facility for the day’s activities and arrange resources as appropriate Inform Practitioner when additional resources need to be purchased Facilitate a fun and safe environment for children to play in by incorporating imaginative and innovative activities in line with setting policies and procedures Administer first aid as far as knowledge allows (ONLY if First Aid certificate is currently held) ensuring paperwork is completed and signed off by Manager. Aid the smooth day to day running of the services Ensuring all staff and visitors are signed in and out of the services, checking with Manager if unsure. All visitors must have an appointment. Greeting Parents/Carers and ensuring good communication between parents/carers and the services Oversee the play activities of the children, taking part when requested and intervening only when required and as appropriate Work in partnership with the Manager/Assistant Manager to assist in the administrative duties to be completed before the children arrive at the setting In Partnership with Manager and Assistant Manager, ensuring children are consulted with, prepare snack rotas for the children, adhering to current food guidelines, food hygiene procedures and promoting healthy eating Involving the Children, plan play activities taking into account the ages and stages of development of the children involved Ensure procedures are followed to make sure the setting is tidy at the end of the session, encouraging children to take part and tidy up after themselves throughout the session complete daily maintenance checks on equipment and resources Keep toy Cupboard clean, safe and tidy Health and Safety Adhere to the health and safety policy and procedures for the setting Aid in completion of H&S audits where delegated Record any accidents or incidents ensuring signed off by the Manager or Assistant Manager Take part in fire drill and evacuations Adhering to legal responsibilities and duties as described in The Children’s (Scotland) Act 1995, appropriate health and safety acts, and child protection Take appropriate care for the health and safety of the children, yourself and your colleagues. Implement setting policies, including food safety and child protection Check allergies list prior to preparing snack Inform senior staff member when leaving room (other than to answer door) and always ensure there is enough staff in room prior to leaving Cloakroom safety checks as per requirements on daily form when on rota duty Ensuring door security is followed at all times. If you are unsure, do not answer the door and get the senior staff member on duty Sign in and out daily ensuring time of arrival/exit is logged accurately for evaluation Take part/Assist in any and all evaluations that the setting will organise day to day and during Play schemes and keep the evaluation folder current. Ensure questionnaires are available daily during Play schemes, encouraging members to complete and return Encourage members to take and complete evaluation forms, including Care Inspectorate pre inspection questionnaires Other Duties Always promote a positive working environment Assist during fundraising/other evening events Attend training & Networking events as required assisting in your continuing professional development Keep your CPD/Training folder current and completed in accordance with SSSC requirements Assist and be proactive in identification of personal training requirements Assist the Manager/Assistant Manager to ensure the setting complies with any and all administration and quality issues that may arise during and after Care Inspectorate Inspections Help in rotation of resources/equipment ensuring that they are sterilised when taken down from loft prior to children having access (including storage boxes) Left Property box emptied weekly, be proactive in reuniting lost items with their owners Undertake cloakroom /toilet safety checks as required on daily sheets Keep box labels current with cleaning info Maintain the highest level of professionalism and confidentiality at all times Under-taking any other reasonable duties, commensurate with job title, as may be determined by the Manager Training is expensive but essential. Any authorised core & CPD training will be paid for by Scamps; but will be reclaimed if you choose to leave the employment within the first 2 years. No unauthorised training will be reimbursed. Failure to comply with the above may lead to disciplinary action. Levels of Responsibility This post has no line management responsibilities. Qualified Support Workers should aid or guide unqualified/Students and Volunteers if they feel they need/ask for support or direct them to the appropriate staff member.
