Missing Cactus
The members of homeroom 312 were very disappointed to see on Wednesday morning, upon Ms. Gehr's return from an
absence, that the homeroom cactus had been uprooted from its pot and removed from the class. This cactus has been
an important part of our homeroom spirit for over 2 years. If someone happens to have accidentally come into
possession of this cactus, and it is still alive, we would very much appreciate its return. Ms. Gehr and homeroom 312

Animal of the Month - the Vancouver Island Marmot
For the month of April, we're going to be raising awareness for the Vancouver Island Marmot! These little buddies are
one of only 5 mammal species exclusive to Canada, and the only one of which that are facing extinction...These squirrellike guys with big teeth spend a lot of their time lounging on rocks, watching for predators, and chilling out. Only a few
hours each day are spent looking for food, eating and interacting with other marmots. But these days, these little guys,
used to hanging out in their exclusive communities, are being overwhelmed by human activity that they've never seen
before! They like to live under shady trees, which, due to deforestation, leave them out in the open as prey to animals
just waiting to feed.. Also, new research has shown that, as social animals, they rely on a certain number of other
marmots in their environment to survive. Less marmots=much harder life for the surviving ones. So for the month of
April, join the environment committee in raising awareness for the Vancouver Island Marmot, our all-Canadian forest
friend! - Environment Committee (04/30)
