Mentors for Young People (Bath and the Surrounding Area)
Mentoring Plus is a local charity making a big impact on young people’s lives.
Young people (12-17) in BANES referred to Mentoring Plus may have been
involved in petty crime or anti-social behavior, be at risk of exclusion from
school or struggling with education or behavioral issues.
A young person is matched with an adult mentor for a year, and they meet
once a week during arranged activities or on their own. Mentors chat, listen,
and offer attention and positive feedback. They might offer insights into work
and adult life, or just be a reliable, discreet adult to whom a young person can
offload. Mentors receive full training and ongoing support.
The simple act of consistently turning up for positive one-to-one interaction
has profound impacts on troubled young people, building self-esteem and
helping reduce later issues. It also helps mentors build their own listening and
co-operation skills, learn communication and influencing techniques, and
understand young people better.
What attributes are needed? Personal warmth, commitment, and an ability to
engage with people and listen without judgment. Successful adult mentors
can be any age over 18, male or female, from any background and lifestyle,
and need no previous experience. They need enough resilience to deal with
temporary difficulties, and they need to be reliable, for a young person who
may lack other reliable adults in their life.

is funky and different (Bath)
What’s Required?
Objective

communicates the strongest message, of our achievements and our financial
accounts in the manner prescribed by The Charity Commission.
Description
Annual Reviews communicate the organisations achievements and future
plans to funders, partners, beneficiaries and supporters. It is often the first
contact a funder will have with our organisation. A professional annual review
will help our organisation make a great first impression, but we want
something that’s a bit different and stands out!

Avon Fire & Rescue (Red Cross) Keynsham
The service provides vital support to people following fires, floods, etc. The day to
day service delivery is operated on a rota-basis and involves highly trained volunteers
providing practical and emotional support using a customised vehicle and a variety of
resources who have a number of regular tasks that we would love to use employee
volunteers for. These include sorting through stock, kitting out our vehicles, and
helping with some of our promotional activities.
In particular, approx every 3 months, we have a stock-check session where we go
through our large stocks of clothing, toiletries, etc. All our clothing is donated to us, so
needs to be sorted, packaged, etc ready for issue to those who need it.
This would be carried out under the supervision of either a staff member or one of our
lead volunteers, so no prior training would be necessary, and as this is normally done
in daytime it would suit employee volunteering.

placements are unique and varied, and aim to match mentors to their mentees
based on interests and similarities. You do not require set qualifications (but you
do need to be at least 18 years old), you simply need to be able to support the
mentee to learn, grow and develop. Mentoring has been recognised as being key
to engaging with young people and helping them build their confidence, skills and
development on an individual basis. Mentors generally deliver a minimum of one
session per week over the course of a year; each session is a minimum of one
hour. Free training is provided for mentors and successful applicants will also
need to be DBS checked.

IT help: Kosmicare UK a non-profit community project organization that started in
2009.
Kosmicare UK is a service dedicated to assist people who are undergoing difficult
drug experiences at festivals and music events.
We are a team of volunteers, composed of a great variety of individuals, each of
whom has their own skills, experiences and capabilities regarding drug related
harm reduction. We include: Youth/ community workers, psychiatric nurses, drug
workers, counselors, complimentary therapists, chemistry students and more. All
are chosen for their personal festival experiences, professional training, life
experiences and their friendly approachable manner and dedication.
Every year the number of volunteers is growing, evolving and changing. We need
IT help: I have used excel spreadsheets to keep all the personal data for the
volunteers, but it has come to the point when my file system is not good enough to
find info when I need it, I need to learn how to keep all the information we have for
easy access and updating.
If anyone could help me please, to understand Database and to organize my files.
And maybe mail-merge too. I used to know all this back in 2004 but the years
erased my memory. I'll be very grateful if someone can assist me on this task.
