Maker of the OnTop Ball Toss Game (patent pending) OnTop Indoor/Outdoor Recreational Ball Toss Game Instructions Teams: Teams consist of 1 or 2 players. One or two game units can be used to play, but if there are 2 player teams, two game units are recommended. Each team plays with a set of 3 like colored balls. Game Play: The recommended distance between units is 12-15 feet. This distance can be modified based on skill level of participants. Players can toss underhand or overhand, much like throwing a dart or shotput. Teams alternate tossing one of their balls, until all balls are tossed. This completes one round. Balls are released from the silo by pulling the hitch pin at the base of the unit. Any Player/Team that does not have fun is disqualified. From OnTop Recreation LLC. The other team is not awarded any points. (See Illustration Below) The next round begins with the team earning points from the previous round going first. If neither team scored in the previous round, the last team that scored points in prior rounds goes first. The rounds continue until one team reaches the agreed upon point total. It is recommended the point total be 21, but it also can be more or less (i.e. 11, 15, 25) In order to win, a team cannot go beyond the point total +1. For example, if the agreed upon point total is 21, a team cannot go past a total of 22 point (21+1). If they do, their point total reverts back to what it was before the round began. However, since they finished the round OnTop, no points are awarded to either team. Traditional Method of Play Illustration From OnTop Recreation LLC. Maker of the OnTop Ball Toss Game (patent pending) Alternate methods of game play Position Points: With this method, points are awarded to the team with their ball On Top, based on the orientation of their balls within the silo. For example, if after all six balls are thrown, four balls are in the silo, with Team A’s balls in the top position (4th) and the 2nd position. Team A would then be awarded 4 points for the ball On Top, and 2 points for the ball in the second position, for a total of 6 points for the round. Team B would not be awarded points. The minimum point total for balls made in any round is 2. So, if only one ball is made during the round, that team is awarded 2 points (See Illustration Below). With this method, teams can mutually agree to waive the limit on total points allowed to win the game. However, by enforcing the limit, strategic decisions will arise making the game much more interesting. For example, a team that goes over during their round, assumes a “defensive” position by attempting to finish On Top, which prevents their opponent from scoring points. However, by continuing to make throws, you run the risk of adding to your opponents total should they finish the round on top. Position Points Method Illustration From OnTop Recreation LLC. Maker of the OnTop Ball Toss Game (patent pending) Winner take all: Played like the standard game method, except the winner of the round (team with their ball On Top) can choose to accept 1 point for each ball their opponent made in the round. However, they must choose to accept points for all, or none of the balls made by their opponent. This decision comes into play towards the end of the game, where maximum points allowed becomes a factor. Winner Take All Method Illustration From OnTop Recreation LLC. Two of a kind is when 2 like colored balls are together within the silo. Two points are awarded for each of the balls, for a total of 4 points. If the ball On Top was not one of these two balls, 2 more points are awarded for the ball On Top for a total of 6 points. Three of a kind is where all three of a players balls are aligned consecutively within the silo. In this case, 3 points are awarded for each one of the 3 balls, for a total of 9 points ONLY if one of these balls is On Top at the end of the round. In this scenario, no additional points are awarded for the ball On Top. (see Illustrations below) From OnTop Recreation LLC. Maker of the OnTop Ball Toss Game (patent pending) Round Play: In this method, teams play a defined number of rounds, similar to baseball. For example, teams can define a game as 9 rounds. A round is complete after all participants have thrown their set of three balls. Therefore, after 9 rounds, the team with more points wins the game. This can be played using the scoring rules in previously described methods. With this method, there are no restrictions on total points allowed. Bonus Ball: The bonus ball method can be combined with any one of the previously mentioned methods. During the course of a game, each team can choose to toss the Bonus Ball as their last ball within the round of their choosing. Teams can only toss it once per game. Before the Toss, the player must announce it as a “Bonus Ball”. If this Bonus Ball is On Top at the conclusion of the round, the winning teams point total becomes equal to their opponents. For example, if the score is 18 to 6, and the team with 6 points successfully tosses the Bonus Ball On Top, the score becomes 18 to 18. If they fail to put the Bonus Ball in the silo, their point total returns to 0. They cannot throw the Bonus Ball again for the remainder of the game. However, if they throw the Bonus Ball into the silo, and their opponent is able to throw their ball On Top of the Bonus Ball, the opponent automatically wins the game. For example, if the score is 18 to 6, in a game being played to 21, and the team with 6 successfully tosses the Bonus Ball in the silo, BUT the other team is able to end up On Top, then the team On Top automatically is awarded the game, with the maximum point total not enforceable.
