Pupil Premium Policy This policy was approved and ratified by the Governing Body of Altwood Church of England School on: Date agreed: Date of next review: SLT Responsibility: 7th February 2017 February 2017 Simon McCallion This policy will be reviewed annually, or earlier if there is a need for information to be updated. Pupil Premium Policy Overview: The Pupil Premium was introduced in April 2011, and paid by means of a specific grant based on school census figures for pupils. At Altwood Church of England School, we believe that by having the highest expectations of all learners, the highest possible standards will be achieved. The school receives additional funding in the form of the Pupil Premium Grant for disadvantaged students. The Department for Education qualifies disadvantaged students as those entitled to Free School Meals at any point in the last six years, those in care, those who have parents in the British armed forces, those who have been recently adopted from care under the Adoption and Children Act 2002 and those who have left care under a Special Guardianship or Residence Order. Altwood Church of England School believes that building the aspiration, engagement and achievement of students eligible for Pupil Premium funding will have positive impact on students across the school. The amount of Pupil Premium Funding per annum, the school’s aims in allocating the funding, and the procedures for ensuring these aims are met and reported are all provided in this Pupil Premium Policy and published annually on the school web site www.altwoodschool.net The Pupil Premium Grant is additional to main school funding and it will be used by Altwood Church of England School to address any underlying inequalities between children eligible by ensuring that funding and provision reach the students who need it most, and provide true and tangible opportunity for all. The allocation of this grant can also be used to ensure that students eligible for Pupil Premium access programmes, provision and initiatives designed for all students and potentially the wider community. Objectives: The Pupil Premium will be used to provide additional support to improve the academic and extracurricular opportunities and progress and to raise the standard of achievement for these disadvantaged students. The funding will be used to diminish the difference between the attendance, punctuality, behaviour, wellbeing, engagement and achievement of these students and their peers. As far as its powers allow, the school will use the Pupil Premium allocation to address underlying inequalities between students eligible for it and other students. The school will ensure that the additional Pupil Premium provision reaches the pupils who need it most and that it makes as significant an impact on their education and lives as it can. Strategies: Pupil Premium funding and spending will be clearly identifiable within the budget. The Head teacher, in consultation with the SLT lead for Pupil Premium Simon McCallion, governors and senior staff, will decide how the Pupil Premium is spent for the benefit of entitled students. The school will assess what additional provision should be made for individual, or groups of, students; this could involve the purchase of equipment, uniform and other non-educational items as appropriate. The school will be accountable for how it has used the additional funding to support the achievement of those pupils covered by the Pupil Premium and the Head teacher, along with the SLT lead on Pupil premium Simon McCallion will report to the governing body and parents on how effective the intervention has been in achieving its aims. The school will publish online information about how much Pupil Premium funding was received in the preceding academic year, how it was allocated, and an analysis of its impact. This will be published on a designated section of the website and be available to all who wish to view it. The school will publish its anticipated allocation of Pupil Premium funding for the current / forthcoming academic year, planned spending of it, along with the rationale behind those decisions. This will form the Pupil premium Strategy, will be published on a designated section of the website and be available to all who wish to view it. The school will ensure all stakeholders including parents, governors, students and others have access to a summary of the attainment of pupils covered by the Pupil Premium. This will form part of the Pupil Premium Strategy. The school will seek to further develop strategies and interventions which can improve the progress and attainment of students eligible for Pupil Premium funding. The school will monitor, evaluate and review the impact of the strategies put into place through Pupil Premium funding to ensure that it can show the value that has been added to the education and development of the entitled students. The school will seek to improve the positive impact of Pupil Premium strategies on at least an annual basis. All teachers are responsible for positively impacting on the progress and development of students covered by the Pupil Premium, and showing evidence of their intervention and its impact. Outcomes: This policy will play an important part in the educational and social development of the individual pupils who are entitled to the Pupil Premium. The school will ensure that these pupils are treated equally and as favourably as others and that the additional funding is allocated effectively to address the challenges they face. The school will use the additional funding to promote the achievement and progress of all entitled pupils, paying particular regard to the effectiveness of quality first teaching for all vulnerable groups, including Pupil Premium. Reporting: The school will monitor, evaluate and review the success of the impact of Pupil Premium Funding in terms of improving educational and other developmental outcomes and cost effectiveness.
