The City of Wilton Manors Joins the Nation’s Largest Flag Football Program
with New Youth Flag Football League Hosted at Mickel Park
Wilton Manors, Florida (November 11, 2015) – Starting January 2016, the
City of Wilton Manors will be expanding its long list of leisure programming
offerings. The City’s Leisure Services department will partner with the
National Flag Football Program, the largest NFL youth flag football
organization in the country, to launch the new Wilton Manors Flag Football
League. The inaugural season, which begins on January 24, 2016, will be
hosted at Mickel Park, 2675 NW 7th Ave., Wilton Manors, Florida.
“We are very excited about this new partnership because it is the first of its
kind in this area,” said Scott Holloway, Wilton Manors Leisure Services
Department Program and Facility Supervisor. “This program is not in Fort
Lauderdale, Oakland Park or any other city close by. The closest City with
a league program is Coconut Creek, so we are anticipating a great
turnout.”
The Wilton Manors Flag Football League will be open to boys and girls,
ages 4 to 14, and teams will be formed according to school name and
grade level.
“The league will be all about fun – no tryouts, no drafts,” said Holloway. “It
will be a great way for the kids in our community to get outside and get
some exercise in a safe and supportive environment.”
All games, which will be led by coaches who have been screened and
trained, will be played on Sunday afternoons with an hour of practice
before the games. The eight-week season begins January 24, 2016 and
ends March 14, 2016 with an end-of-season tournament.
The registration fee for the league is $125 and includes an NFL jersey and a
flag belt. The City of Wilton Manors Leisure Services Department will be
accepting registrations through to Saturday, January 2, 2016.
