2016- November, December Words of Wisdom from Steel Magnolias

BUTTERFLY BANNER
September, October- 2016- November, December
Words of Wisdom from Steel Magnolias Ouiser (Kay Rose)I could just spit! Drum Eatonton sometimes makes my life here in Chinquapin Parish as
gloomy as a graveyard on a wet Sunday. I swear that man is out of his mind and about to drive me
there with him.He shoots that dang gun of his in the backyard, which scares the hair right out of my
dog. Whitey Black, Rhett's veterinarian, is going to have to sedate my poor dog to treat his condition. I
get my hair cut and styled by Truvy Jones, whose slug of a husband turned her carport into a beauty
shop, so she could support him. Truvy recently hired a young assistant, Annelle something or other.
The poor thing had to move in with a crazy lady when the man she "thought" was her husband got in
trouble with the law and ran off with everything they owned.
The best friends I have in this town, including Drum's wife, M'Lynn, and Clairee Belcher, widow
of the former mayor, also get their hair styled at Truvy's Beauty Spot.
Drum's and M'Lynn's beautiful daughter, Shelby, a diabetic, died recently after undergoing a kidney
transplant. I adored that girl. She was smart, kind and as pretty as a picture.
Thanks to Shelby I was reacquainted with my old friend Owen, and our renewed friendship is coming
along, despite my having run him off decades ago when I married the first of my two deadbeat
husbands.
These friends of mine and I may have endured more than our share of tragedy. But as Truvy
says, "Laughter through tears is my favorite emotion," and we continue to celebrate the power of our
love and friendship. We may bend but we don't break. We are steel magnolias.
Special thanks if you attended the play!
If not, we hope you will attend the next play, Greater Tuna

From the desk of the president…
Welcome to the newest edition of the Bedford County
Arts Council's newsletter. Our purpose is to reach out to
the community through this publication and make you
aware of the work being done to fulfill our mission
statement. The Bedford County Arts Council shall seek
to encourage, promote, foster, sponsor and develop the
arts in Bedford County, and surrounding areas, for the
benefit of the general public.
Your board has been busy looking toward the vision of
the future for The Fly Arts Center and the work of the
Arts Council. Currently, we have moved forward and are
pleased with rentals of the McGrew Reception Hall for
weddings, receptions, and celebrations. A dance was
held on August 20 featuring the Borderline Band and the
performing arts group presented the play "Steel
Magnolias." Both of these events were well attended and
great successes.
Thanks to each of you and to the Bedford County
Community for your support. We look forward to serving
you in the future. Also, thanks to all members of the
board and support groups for all their time and hard
work. As you may know, the Arts Council and The Fly are
overseen and operated by a totally volunteer group.
Please pat someone on the back and tell them how much
their work is appreciated.
