YOUTH ATHLETIC LEAGUE FAQ`S Q: Can my child play with a

YOUTH ATHLETIC LEAGUE FAQ’S
Q: Can my child play with a particular coach?
A: We do not allow coach requests. The registered child of a volunteer coach will be placed on the parent’s team.
Q: Can my child play with his/her friends?
A: We allow reciprocal friend requests, meaning two children from different households that would like to play together
must request each other at the time of registration. We will place siblings together as well.
Q: What does coaching entail?
A: Coaches are volunteers, typically parents with a child playing in the league. Occasionally, an older sibling, grandparent
or family friend may volunteer as well.
Coaches must be able to commit to the entire nine-week season.
Each team will have one or two coaches, depending on how many adults volunteer. If there are two, it is up to them
to decide how to divide duties and responsibilities, including who will be the head coach and who will be the
assistant.
All coaches are expected to display positive behavior and promote our overall philosophy: We encourage all parents
and coaches to make this a fun learning experience for our children. We do not keep win/loss records in these leagues.
We do emphasize fun, sportsmanship, and learning over winning and losing, and every child will have the opportunity
to play.
In order to provide the safest environment for our participants and their families, all volunteer coaches are required
to submit a background check. The authorization form will be provided when you register your child.
Coaches will receive a free team shirt on the second Saturday and a team photo at the end of the season.
Q: What if my schedule conflicts with the date of the parent meeting?
A: This is not a mandatory meeting, but it is an opportunity to receive your child’s roster and schedule. We highly
encourage you to attend so that you and your child have an opportunity to meet his/her coach(es) and ask more
questions. We can also correct errors on the roster at this time to ensure we have accurate information when the
season begins.
The meeting is the final opportunity to purchase an extra shirt(s) to match your child’s team.
Q: When will my child receive his/her team shirt?
A: We will give the entire team’s shirts to the coach before the first game, which is the second Saturday of the season.
The child will receive the shirt size you ordered at the time of registration. Coaches will issue the size that was
requested at the time of registration, not necessarily the number the child prefers.
Q: What days are practices?
A: Weekly practices are optional and will not affect a child’s eligibility to play in the games. The first Saturday of the
season is practice and the first game of the season begins on the second Saturday. Any additional or weekly practices
are decided by the coaches and parents of each team. Coaches can schedule and set 1-hour, weekly practices
beginning at the coaches meeting prior to the season.
Q: When are games and what time will they be scheduled?
A: All official Practices and Games are on Saturdays. The first games of the day typically begin at 8:30 a.m. The last
games usually start at 3:30 p.m., but this will vary depending on the number of teams we have playing that season.
Games last 45– 60 minutes, depending on the age of players in the league.
Each season’s schedules are released at the Parent meeting. Due to the registration period and the number of teams
we have, schedules will not be given to anyone before the meeting.
Q: Where can I find overflow parking?
A: Parking is available on both the north and south sides of the Recreation Center. Additional parking is available near
both the Show Barn and the Community Center, as well as throughout San Gabriel Park. Parking is never permitted
on Austin Avenue, FM 971 or River Haven Drive.
Q: If a Saturday gets rained out or other inclement weather forces a cancellation, will we make up any of those days?
A: We will make up the first two games that are canceled only. Scheduled practices on the Saturday will not be made up
if canceled.
Q: Who can I talk to if I have a question during a Saturday game or practice?
A: We will have a supervisor or coordinator on site each Saturday.
