The Process – World Café
World Café conversations are intentional ways
to create a living network of conversations
around questions that matter. A Café
conversation is a creative process for leading
collaborative dialogue, sharing knowledge, and
creating possibilities for action in groups of all
sizes.
The Process – World Café
The World Café was born out of local
conversations held with diverse groups from
around the world; the ideas behind it tested and
adapted until Juanita Brown collated the work
during her doctoral studies, which culminated
in her seminal dissertation published in 2001,
The World Café: Living Knowledge through
Conversations that Matter

The Process - World Café:
1.
Identify a volunteer to be the host.
2. Discuss the café question for 10-15
minutes.
• Be creative! Feel free to use words,
pictures, graphs, and diagrams to record
thoughts.
The Process - World Café:
1.
2.
3.
Rotate to the next table to discuss the
next question.
Following the final question, return to
your original table, read and discuss
other groups’ responses.
Be prepared to share the essence of
your discussion with the whole group.
The Purpose – World Café Question #1
What can we accomplish for education in
Oregon as a network of ESDs that we cannot
accomplish as individual ESDs?
The Criteria – World Café Question #2
What factors will be important for us to
consider as we work to become a network of
ESDs?
The Design – World Café Question #3
What do we envision a network of ESDs in
Oregon to look like?
The Network – World Café Question #4
How will we know if our network of ESDs is
successful in improving the education
enterprise in Oregon?
