Lawrence Yacht & Country Club
Rules & Regulations
Thank you in advance for reviewing and abiding by the “Rules & Regulations” of the Lawrence Yacht &
Country Club. The “Rules & Regulations” were developed by the Park Commission. The Park Commission
is made up of your fellow club members.
The “Rules & Regulations” were designed to ensure a pleasurable club experience for all of our club
members and guests. We have used the United States Golf Association Etiquette Guidelines whenever
possible. Theses Etiquette Guidelines are practiced by golf courses all over the United States.
USGA & Lawrence Yacht & Country Club Golf Etiquette:
Unlike many sports, golf is for the most part played without the supervision of a referee, umpire or coach. The
game relies on the individual golfer to show consideration for other players and to abide by the rules. New
golfers are often in need of advice about customary behavior and practices to follow on course so that play
proceeds safely and without delay. Here are 10 tips to help all players get the maximum enjoyment from the
game.
The Spirit of the Game
Unlike many sports, golf is played, for the most part, without the supervision of a referee or umpire. The game
relies on the integrity of the individual to show consideration for other players and to abide by the Rules. All
players should conduct themselves in a disciplined manner, demonstrating courtesy and sportsmanship at all
times, irrespective of how competitive they may be. This is the spirit of the game of golf.
Safety
Players should ensure that no one is standing close by or in a position to be hit by the club, the ball or any
stones, pebbles, twigs or the like when they make a stroke or practice swing.
Players should not play until the players in front are out of range.
Players should always alert course maintenance staff nearby or ahead when they are about to make a stroke that
might endanger them.
If a player plays a ball in a direction where there is a danger of hitting someone, he should immediately shout a
warning. The traditional word of warning in such a situation is "fore."
Spectators are not permitted on the golf course, except during specified tournaments.

Consideration for Other Players
No Disturbance or Distraction
Players should always show consideration for other players on the course and should not disturb their play by
moving, talking or making any unnecessary noise.
Players should ensure that any electronic device taken onto the course does not distract other players.
On the teeing ground, a player should not tee his ball until it is his turn to play.
Players should not stand close to or directly behind the ball, or directly behind the hole, when a player is about
to play.
On the Putting Green
On the putting green, players should not stand on another player's line of putt or when he is making a stroke,
cast a shadow over his line of putt.
Players should remain on or close to the putting green until all other players in the group have holed out.
Scoring
In stroke play, a player who is acting as a marker should, if necessary, on the way to the next tee, check the score
with the player concerned and record it.
Attire
Proper attire is required at all times on the golf course, driving range, tennis courts, marina, and in the snack bar
area, and environs surrounding the Club House. Shirts must have collars and must be worn tucked in.
Normal athletic attire for a particular activity is considered proper. Bathing suits, bathing robes, jogging shorts,
cut off slacks, jeans, underwear type shirts, tank tops, or tube tops are permitted only at the marina and are
prohibited from all other areas of the club.
When it is necessary to change clothes or shoes, please do so in Locker Rooms.
Pace of Play
Play at Good Pace and Keep Up
Players should play at a good pace. The Park Commission has determined 4 hours and 30 minutes
It is a group's responsibility to keep up with the group in front. If it loses a clear hole and it is delaying the group
behind, it should invite the group behind to play through, irrespective of the number of players in that group.

Pace of Play Policy
The Park Commission, keeping the best interest of all members will implement the following
measures and necessary action to improve Pace of Play.
1)
2)
3)
4)
5)
6)
Every group is expected to play no longer than 4 ½ hrs.
From the time each player reaches their ball they will be given 45 seconds to play their shot or
putt their ball.
A ranger will be monitoring your pace of play. If they inform you that you are out of position
with the group in front of you and playing at an inappropriate pace, they will tell you that you
need to get moving, that will be considered a Warning!
If the ranger approaches you a second time to inform you that you have not improved your
position and pace, you will be asked to pick up your golf balls and move forward to the next
the next tee.
All players in the group will receive a letter from the Park Commission concerning the
situation.
A record will be maintained of letters being sent out to our members. Members receiving two
letters may be asked to come before the Park Commission with the possibility of suspension of
privileges.
To assure all golfers are to comply with the policy, every golfer should do the following:
Play “ready golf”
 Proceed directly to your own ball.
 Plan your shot and select your club while approaching your ball.
 Take practice swings and get set while others are hitting
 Hit when ready.
 Carry a spare ball in your pocket, when in doubt hit a second ball.
 Know the rules of golf.
Don’t waste time
 Give instructions on the driving range, not the course.
 Don’t delay your shot when the group ahead is realistically out of range.
 Carry an extra ball, ball marker, and ball mark repair tool in your pocket.
On the tee
 The first player ready to hit should do so.
 Other players should wait right next to the tee markers.
 After hitting, each player should return to clubs and be ready to proceed to ball.
On the green
 Never record scores on or near the green, go to the next tee.
 Don’t leave your car or bag in front of the green (leave them off to the side or the rear of
the green towards the next tee.)
 Line your putt before it is your turn.
 Follow continuous putting rules until holed out, unless restricted by another’s line.
 First player to hole out should retrieve flag stick.
3
Lawrence Yacht & Country Club
Rules & Regulations
Play with motorized cars
 After teeing off, decide which player should hit first and drive straight to the ball.
 While the first player prepares to hit, the other drives to ball, plays shot, and proceed to
pick up partner who is already walking to the next shot.
 For approach, sand, and chip shots take all the clubs you will need to finish the hole,
including your putter.
 The first player on the green or the player nearest the cup is responsible for parking the
car. Park 30 feet to the rear of the green in direct line with the next tee. The first player to
putt out should proceed directly to the car and mark the scores.
 When golf cars are restricted to cart paths, players should take a few clubs to their ball.

If the course is quiet, let faster players through.

Mark errant shots by lining them up between a landmark and the location of the original
shot.
Be Ready to Play
Players should be ready to play as soon as it is their turn to play. When playing on or near the putting green, they
should leave their bags or carts in such a position as will enable quick movement off the green and towards the
next tee. When the play of a hole has been completed, players should immediately leave the putting green.

Lost Ball
If a player believes his ball may be lost outside a water hazard or is out of bounds, to save time, he should play a
provisional ball.
Players searching for a ball should signal the players in the group behind them to play through as soon as it
becomes apparent that the ball will not easily be found.
4
Lawrence Yacht & Country Club
Rules & Regulations
They should not search for five minutes before doing so. Having allowed the group behind to play through, they
should not continue play until that group has passed and is out of range.
Priority on the Course
Priority on the course is determined by a group's pace of play. Any group playing a whole round is entitled to
pass a group playing a shorter round.
Care of the Course
Bunkers
Before leaving a bunker, players should carefully fill up and smooth over all holes and footprints made by them
and any nearby made by others. If a rake is within reasonable proximity of the bunker, the rake should be used
for this purpose.
Repair of Divots, Ball-Marks and Damage by Shoes
Players should carefully repair any divot holes made by them and any damage to the putting green made by the
impact of a ball (whether or not made by the player himself). On completion of the hole by all players in the
group, damage to the putting green caused by golf shoes should be repaired.
Preventing Unnecessary Damage
Players should avoid causing damage to the course by removing divots when taking practice swings or by hitting
the head of a club into the ground, whether in anger or for any other reason.
Players should ensure that no damage is done to the putting green when putting down bags or the flagstick.
In order to avoid damaging the hole, players and caddies should not stand too close to the hole and should take
care during the handling of the flagstick and the removal of a ball from the hole. The head of a club should not
be used to remove a ball from the hole.
Players should not lean on their clubs when on the putting green, particularly when removing the ball from the
hole.
The flagstick should be properly replaced in the hole before players leave the putting green.
Local notices regulating the movement of golf carts should be strictly observed.
Conclusion; Penalties for Breach
If players follow the guidelines in this Section, it will make the game more enjoyable for everyone.
If a player consistently disregards these guidelines during a round or over a period of time to the detriment of
others, players warned more than 2 times during a round for disregarding Etiquette Guidelines will receive a
letter of reprimand and appear before the Park Commission. Such action may, for example, include prohibiting

play for a limited time on the course. This is considered to be justifiable in terms of protecting the interest of the
majority of golfers who wish to play in accordance with these guidelines.
In the case of a serious breach of Etiquette, the Park Commission may:
o Revoke or suspend a club member’s membership.
o Restrict to late starting times.
o Loss of golf car and/or caddie privileges.
o Or any other penalties as may be warranted.
