Divots Division - The First Tee of Battle Creek

2017 Amended Rules/Format
Calhoun County Junior Tour
Divots Division – Under 10 yrs old
The Divots Division is designed to get young players interested in the game of golf. This division will
encourage the demonstration of The First Tee Code of Conduct (respect for myself, respect for others,
and respect for my surroundings) during all events and help in the development of the child’s golf game
and social growth. The Divots Division will expand players’ golf ability while also allowing them to meet
other golfers their age and visit different courses for a new golf experience at every event.
Parents and family members are encouraged to accompany players on the course in this division.
Snacks: Fresh fruit will be provided before the round. At the conclusion of all Divot Division events there
will be a snack provided to players who would like one. Snack will be ice cream sandwich, popsicle, etc.
Rules:
Distance: Boys and Girls will play 9 holes from the forward most tee markers or a teeing ground
determined by a Calhoun County Junior Tour Official.
Maximum stroke limit per hole: 10 strokes
Pace of play guidelines: Each group will be allotted 15 minutes per hole, which equals 2 hours 15
minutes for 9 holes. Two (2) practice swing maximum.
Players are always encouraged to follow the USGA Rules of Golf. In the interest of fast play, the
following modifications will be used in Calhoun County Junior Tour events:

A ball lost or hit out of bounds may be played as a lateral hazard under penalty of 1 stroke (no
distance penalty).

If a hazard requires a forced carry, players may drop on the opposite side of the hazard, whether
a Drop Zone exists or not, under penalty of 1 stroke.

Any long grass or wooded areas may be played as a lateral hazard under penalty of 1 stroke.
Caddying: Parents and spectators are encouraged to offer advice to players in the Divots Division. While
offering advice, parents and spectators should stay a reasonable distance from players unless helping to
speed play, find lost balls, count proper number of strokes, or enforce rules and etiquette.
Attire: Shirts must be tucked in, collared preferred.
Etiquette: Rake bunkers, fix ball marks, replace divots and put sand in its place. Players within a group
should introduce themselves at the beginning of the round and shake hands with one another at the
completion of a round.
