Friends of Hillside Meeting
14th September 2015, White Horse, 7pm
Present: Michelle Farmer, Liz Earps, Pippa McGoldrick, Katie Martin, Onye Chigbu, Davina
Banks, Emma Finnegan, Sasha Davies, Craig Richardson, Nikki Bladen, Anye, Sally
Mozeley
1. Apologies
Steve Jones, Dorte Hansen, Nikki Morley
2. Minutes of Previous Meeting (8.6.15)
Agreed as an accurate record.
3. Matters Arising from the Minutes
No matters arising, most actions were related to the Summer Fair
4. Treasurers Update
Current balance in bank for September is £5228.91. All cheques have been banked and
cashed. From that, there is £2,000 to be paid to cover the projects which were voted for at
the summer fair. Onye will liaise with Craig to handle this payment.
5. Summer Camp Debrief
Everyone who attended seemed to have really enjoyed the camp, and felt that it should be
repeated next year. There were 8 tents so £80 was made. Pippa will publish the best of the
photos. We will consider provision of food next year, possibly combining the camp with
sports day / bucking bronco / bouncy castle / panning for “gold” stall etc. We will need to
consider that there will be sleepover around June next year, and reconsider the pricing to
take these into account.
6. Grant Application
Helsby Parish Council offer the opportunity to apply for a grant of £250/£500/£1000 in
November. Craig suggested that options to go for could be a school council trip to the
Houses of Parliament, which was very successful approximately 5 years ago, and at another
school. Also we could look to the grant to provide funding for a storage container of some
sort for the school field, to house sports equipment.
The meeting agreed that the trip to the Houses of Parliament was a better option, and that
we will apply for £500, taking some children from the school council to the presentation if
possible, or possibly including a video of the children.. Pippa will consider preparation for
that presentation.
7. Christmas Fair and Fundraising
Pippa has kindly agreed to host a “Carols by Candlelight” event at her house to raise money
for FOH. Liz kindly agreed to ask her Dad to be Father Christmas.
The Christmas Fair is on 4.12.15. Father Christmas has a new beard! Michelle will book
Frodsham Brewery. She has had a request from the dance group to perform again.
Unfortunately, the meeting felt that there would not be enough room to do this safely at
Christmas, but we would like the dance group to continue to perform at Summer Fairs. Katie
will advertise the dance club in the FOH newsletter. Pippa will book the popcorn and candy
floss lady.
Pippa will ask Steve Jones if he would consider looking to local businesses again for
donations. Katie will ask via newsletter if anyone with a business would like to sponsor a
stall. Craig will speak to Gill Fletcher-Curran regarding Christmas cakes.
It was agreed that we will use Class Fundraising to give parents the opportunity to purchase
cards, mugs, gift tags or tea towels with their own child’s design. Craig will speak to
teachers about the possibility of planning this into lessons. Sally will order the art pack and
ensure that this is passed to school. It was agreed that it was not possible to get the artwork
done and orders in before half term, so we will purchase at the “standard” prices.
8. Bags and Calendars Update
We have a few bags, and approximately 25 calendars which are with Stella in the office.
Katie will arrange a flyer in book bags for reception class and combine this with the invitation
to the coffee mornings, where the bags and calendars will also be on sale.
9. Coffee Mornings
The first coffee morning will be 2nd October. It was agreed that we will “change these up” so
that future coffee “mornings” will be at pickup time instead, to ensure that parents who are
working in the morning have another option.
10. Second Hand Uniform Sale
It was agreed that the sale should be combined with the first coffee morning. We have some
uniform in the attic and are expecting further uniform to come into school this Thursday
17.9.15.
It was agreed that we will price each item individually, and Pippa will help with this. The
uniform will be hung on a rail.
11. School Field Toilets Update
The Travis Perkins proposal is still awaiting approval. Craig is hoping for a response shortly.
It was agreed that we will assess again in the next meeting, and if no response receive, we
will look to chase this up. In the meantime, Katie will ask Woodhouse for a quote for
finishing the work.
12. Disco 15.10.15
Dorte, Liz, Sasha and Sally will help. Michelle will ask Lynne Duffy to contact Tesco. Sally
will check supplies in attic for cordial, hot dogs, glow sticks etc. and if necessary will ask
Hannah Duffy if she could help with any shopping required.
13. Happy School Bag
There is a collection due in October, and the bags should be received shortly. Sally will
check that we have posters and ensure these go up asap.
14. Netherton Hall
There were lots of ideas for events at the Netherton Hall. Nikki advised that it would be good
if another member of FOH could go with her to discuss – Pippa will do this. It was agreed
that we would ask if it was possible to have a Halloween-themed event on the Saturday
before Halloween. Possible bouncy castle, face painting, bobbing for apples, fancy dress,
and possible hog roast.
Nikki will check whether outside bands would be possible for future events
15. AOB
Davina had drafted a great questionnaire for parents, to see if we could get some feedback
regarding events they would support, things they could help with, possibly obtain their
contact details for FOH communications etc. Everyone agreed that the questionnaire should
be used and issued asap. Davina will add a more personal note for reception parents.
