What is Science of Hockey? The Basics: No players?

What is Science of Hockey?
The Texas Stars Hockey Club has teamed up with Raising Cane’s to bring you Science of Hockey! Our
Science of Hockey program is very simple, educational, and fun! It will allow your 5th grade students the
chance to see how science affects everything—including hockey! We will provide you with our Science
of Hockey video, a notebook, and a player appearance for demonstrations and hands-on learning. After
the lesson, students will receive a gift from Raising Cane’s and a voucher for two (2) tickets to a Texas
Stars Hockey game.
The Basics:




Science of Hockey Video: We will provide you with our Science of Hockey video that presents
basic principles of physics and demonstrates their importance in hockey.
Science of Hockey Pamphlet: We provide a small workbook that contains questions addressed in
the video.
Player Interaction and Demonstration: Players can attend the lesson and show students what
the video has presented and add extra insight to the game of hockey.
Achievement Award: After the lesson is completed, every student that participates will receive
an Achievement Award from Raising Cane’s and one voucher good for two (2) tickets to a Texas
Stars hockey game.
No players? No problem.
Although we love bringing players to these events as we feel it adds an extra element and really elevates
the lesson, we understand if there are scheduling problems. The program is available to do without
player attendance, just let us know.
How to Schedule a Lesson:
If you would like to incorporate Science of Hockey into your lesson plan, just fill out the form provided
on our website at www.texasstars.com/foundation/science-of-hockey. The players will only visit 5th
grade classes and will spend 20 minutes in each classroom. This will allow time for questions and
pictures with the players. If you have any other questions you may contact Texas Stars Foundation
Director, Morgan Hurley, via email [email protected] or call her at 512.600.5186.
