Grade 7 Mathematics For Galveston ISD on 3/11/2015 7.5 PROPORTIONALITY The student applies mathematical process standards to use geometry to describe or solve problems involving proportional relationships. The student is expected to: Readiness Standards 7.5(C) solve mathematical and real-world problems involving similar shape and scale drawings Supporting Standards 7.5(A) generalize the critical attributes of similarity, including ratios within and between similar shapes 7.5(B) describe p as the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter 7.6 PROPORTIONALITY The student applies mathematical process standards to use probability and statistics to describe or solve problems involving proportional relationships. The student is expected to: Readiness Standards 7.6(G) solve problems using data represented in bar graphs, dot plots, and circle graphs, including part-to-whole and part-to-part comparisons and equivalents 7.6(H) solve problems using qualitative and quantitative predictions and comparisons from simple experiments 7.6(I) determine experimental and theoretical probabilities related to simple and compound events using data and sample spaces Supporting Standards 7.6(A) 7.6(C) 7.6(D) 7.6(E) represent sample spaces for simple and compound events using lists and tree diagrams make predictions and determine solutions using experimental data for simple and compound events make predictions and determine solutions using theoretical probability for simple and compound events find the probabilities of a simple event and its complement and describe the relationship between the two Multiple representations (symbols, diagrams, graphs, and language as appropriate) to help them remember: SEs to reinforce So What? Vocabulary Rock & Roll TEKS Knowledge & Skills 7.5 & 7.6 Proportionality (Geometry, Probabilty, and Statistics) 1. Student pairs or groups of 4 2. Assign a vocabulary words 3. Students roll the die (template attached) and complete the task for the resulting number. No two students can roll the same number—roll again. 4. Students record their response to the task in the chart. State meaning in your own words Describe when it is used. Teacher prepares a set of dominoes with academic vocabulary terms (1 set per group) Students are placed in groups of four. Vocabulary dominos are placed face down and scrambled. Each student is given six dominoes. One domino is placed in the center to begin the game. Each player takes a turn matching one of their vocabulary dominos with one on the board explaining how the two terms are related to each other. Students continue to use the six dominoes they were given at the start of the game, making connections as players take turns. Should a student not be able to make a connection, he/she draws another vocabulary domino and tries to make that one connect. The first person to place all of their vocabulary dominoes on the board wins! SET UP THE SHOT: Pairs choose a question and cut it out of their test handout Pairs answer question cooperatively, showing their work 2. CHECK THE SCORE: Pairs consult the teacher’s "playbook" (answer key) to determine if their answer is correct 3. FOLLOW THROUGH: (If you missed – self correct) Explain why the original answer was incorrect on the back Explain why the correct answer IS the appropriate response on the back. Teacher verify. 4. TAKE THE SHOT: Pairs take turns "shooting" the questions into the appropriate “basket” (3 pointer, 2 pointer, 1 point free throw) Students keep shooting until they make it Free Throws FT1 FT2 FT3 Free Throws FT4 FT5 LU6 Lay Ups LU7 Lay Ups LU8 LU9 Lay Ups LU10 Lay Ups LU11 LU12 Lay Ups LU13 LU14 LU15 Three Pointers 3P16 3P17 Three Pointers 3P18 3P19 3P20 Three Pointers 3P21
