WHY INDIVIDUAL REGISTRATION?
As the National Governing Body for the sport of softball, ASA/USA Softball is committed to the
goal of providing accident and liability insurance for all participants in the Junior Olympic
(youth) program. The only way this can be accomplished is to individually register each
participant in the program, including players, managers, coaches, assistant coaches and
scorekeepers. Most other National Governing Bodies of youth sport programs individually
register their participants, in order to boost loyalty in their organization, increase brand
awareness and to ensure that all players receive adequate and economical insurance benefits. To this end,
ASA/USA Softball has been converting to Individual Registration (as opposed to team registration) for the Junior
Olympic Program.
For all individually registered teams/players:
1. ASA Accident and Liability Insurance are automatically provided to all individually
registered members as a benefit of membership.
2. Individually registered players are insured to play in any amateur softball event on any
ASA-registered team no matter whether team is playing ASA, USSSA, Pony, etc.
3. Insurance coverage follows the individual throughout the calendar year for all ASA/USA
Softball activities, even if they change to another ASA/USA Softball team.
4. If parent(s) have other accident insurance, ASA’s Accident plan is secondary; if no other
insurance ASA’s Accident plan is primary subject to the deductible and coinsurance
(90/10%).
5. Players are covered during tryouts, even prior to actual registration and payment. However,
any player who is injured during tryouts must be registered ASAP in order for coverage to
apply retroactively to his/her injury.
6. Insurance coverage begins on the day of registration for new registrations. Individually
Registered players and coaches who are renewing registration, will be covered from
September 1st of the current year thru August 31 of the following year.
7. Choice of $125 or $250 deductible
8. At least 1 coach must be registered with the team, but all coaches can individually register
in order to be covered for under the ASA Accident plan.
9. All individually registered players are eligible ‘pick-up’ players for teams advancing to a
championship tournament. (in accordance with Pick-Up Player rules)
10. All individually registered players are eligible ‘guest players’ for teams participating in
invitational tournaments (not advanced play or Championship tournaments)
Individually registered LEAGUES can add these benefits to the above list:
 If all of teams within a league individually register with ASA, then the interests of the
League and the league officers are automatically covered by the liability policy for claims
arising out of Bodily Injury or Property Damage.
 A tournament is automatically covered IF all participating teams in the tournament are from
a league that is 100% individually registered. However, if tournament includes teams from
outside of the league, ASA Tournament Insurance should be purchased.
