Rules and Regulations
All ponies must be registered by the date of the show in the appropriate section of the BCPS Stud Book or Register, in the Stud
Book of an Approved Connemara Society or in the Part-Bred Register where applicable.
A copy of the BCPS Showing Rules is available on the BCPS website, www.britishconnemaras.co.uk.
It is the responsibility of Exhibitors to enter ponies correctly in the appropriate class. Neither the organisers of this event nor the
BCPS nor any agent or representative thereof accept any liability for any accident, damage, injury or illness or any loss of any
kind whether financial or otherwise suffered by any horse, pony, owner, rider, spectator, land building, person, animal or any
other property of any type whether caused by negligence, breach of trust, or in any way whatsoever.
It is a condition of entry that all exhibitors shall, to the extent allowed by law, indemnify this Show and Officials, Servants and
Assistants against all actions, proceeding, claims or otherwise in relation to or arising from his/her entries in this show, and each
entry form must be signed as having accepted these conditions.
Objections: Any person wishing to lodge a protest with reference to any person or exhibit shall do so in writing within 30
minutes of the termination of the class, and at the same time shall deposit a sum of £50.00. If on investigation by the organisers
the protest is not sustained the deposit shall be forfeited.
Broodmares: Must be free of hereditary diseases. All in-milk mares must be shown with the foal at foot and no foal is to be
exhibited under four weeks of age.
Timetable: Exhibitors are asked to note the timetable. The Committee reserves the right to divide, cancel or amalgamate any
class where deemed necessary
Refunds: Strictly No refund of entry fees.
NPS Scotland Qualifier Rules
Ponies may only qualify once for each NPS Scotland Competition Final.
All Mountain & Moorland Ponies must be registered in the main body of their respective stud book. Part breds and X registered
ponies and Eriskays are not eligible.
Qualification in the M. & M In Hand Section may go to 3 rd in the Championship. All others may go to no lower than 4th place.
A Judge is not obliged to award an NPS Scotland Finals qualification if he/she feels that the pony is not of a
sufficient standard
Closing date for entries to NPS Scotland Finals: Shows after 5th June 2017 adhere to a closing date of 5th August
2017 and Late Entries will NOT be accepted
NOVICE CLASSES
A pony is not eligible to compete if, before 1st January in the current year, it has done any of the following: Won an open NPS
affiliated mixed M & M Ridden Class. Won a ridden class at an Olympia, Horse of the Year Show or RIHS qualifying round
Qualified for Horse of the Year Show or RIHS Ridden classes. Qualified for the M&M Novice or Intermediate Ridden final at the
NPS Summer Championship show or the NPS Scotland/Kilmannan Novice Final @ NPS Scotland Championship Finals (Blair).,
(N.B. Ponies can compete as novices in this competition for two consecutive years provided they do not submit and entry form to
the Final in the first year . Qualified for the M&M Ridden Championship final at Olympia in previous years. If a pony qualifies for
Horse of the Year Show or RIHS in its second year it is immediately de-noviced and cannot compete in the Kilmannan Final @
Blair. Ponies must be shown in a snaffle bit. Flash nosebands and drop nosebands are not permitted in flat ridden classes.
Entry for the Finals can only be made by sending the official card duly signed by the Judge at the time of qualifying with your
entry form.
The OWNER must be or become a member of NPS Scotland before entering the Finals. M&M Novice Ridden, Open Ridden are for
ponies FOUR years old and over. M&M WHP classes are for ponies FIVE years old and over. The Final will take place at the Blair
Castle International Horse Trials on Friday 25th August 2017.
NPS QUALIFIERS: The highest placed eligible pony, in each class will qualify for the final, to be held at the NPS Summer Championship
Show, Malvern in August. A pony may only qualify once. Qualification may not pass further down the line. Owners need not be members of
the National Pony Society to qualify at this show. Should such a pony qualify the owners must become an NPS Qualifying or Life member to
compete at the final. .
NPS/The Minns Family M & M Ridden Silver Medal Rosette Championship
A Silver Medal Rosette is offered by the National Pony Society for the Best Pure-Bred Ridden Pony in the Show. If the Champion Pony has
already qualified it is still entitled to the Silver Medal Rosette but the qualification goes to the Reserve Champion Pony Qualification to go no
lower than first Reserve. The qualifying owner need not be a member of the NPS to qualify at this show. If the owner of the qualifying pony is
not an NPS member they must become one before entering the final at the NPS Summer Championship Show. Qualifiers are entitled to compete
in the final of the Silver Medal Rosette Championship to be held at the NPS Summer Championship Show August 2017.

Fences: Min.75cms Max.85cms Max. Spread 75cms
The highest placed Junior rider 18 years and under by 1st January in the current year with a pony exceeding 138cms but not exceeding
148cms to qualify for the NPS/Area 25 M & M Junior Working HunterPony National Championship. At the final rider/ponies will jumps in
the section relevant to their age/height.

The 2 most highly marked ponies from each section, not already qualified, will qualify for the Final which will take place at the
Blair Castle International Horse Trials on Friday 25th August 2017. Qualifications to go no lower than 4th place

PERFORMANCE PONY CLASSES

Class 6 Performance Pony Class. Open to pure-bred and part-bred/over height registered Connemara Stallion, Mare or Gelding, 4 years
old and over.
Section 1 Pure/ Part-Bred and Over Height Connemaras
Rules for Section 1 A snaffle bridle must be worn. To be judged as a performance class and not as a show class. A rider may ride more than one
pony in each class. Previous winners may compete.
Ponies enter the ring and perform a show that must include a walk, working trot, canter on both reins and finish with a halt of 3 seconds. The
show must not exceed 2 minutes. Immediately after the show a 2’3” course of 5/6 jumps will be jumped. Marking as follows: Style on the flat 25
marks, Jumping style 25 marks, Overall impression 50 marks. Marks to be deducted a) jump knocked down -10 b) 1st refusal -10 2nd refusal – 20
c) 3rd refusal -elimination.
Section 2 Pure/Part Bred and Over Height Connemaras

b) 1st refusal – 10, c) 2nd refusal – 20, d) 3rd refusal – elimination.

A pony is deemed a Nursery Novice if it is in the first year of competing in ridden classes and has not won any mountain and moorland novice
ridden class by the 1st of January in the current year. Ponies will only require to walk and trot together but may canter in their individual show.

A pony is not eligible to compete if, before the 1st January in the current year is has won an Open NPS affiliated class, mixed
M&M Ridden Class, Won a ridden class at Olympia, HOYS or RIHS qualifying round. Qualified for the HOYS or RIHS ridden
classes. Qualified for the M&M Novice or Internediate Ridden Final at the NPS Summer Championships (N.B. ponies can compete
as Novices in this competition for two consecutive years provided they do not submit an entry to the final in the first year )
Qualified for the M&M Ridden Championship final at Olympia in previous years. If a pony qualifies for HOYS or RIHS in its
second year it is immediately de-noviced and cannot compete in the Picton Final.
Pure bred qualifier only for NPS Scotland/Kilmannan Stud Novice Ridden Mountain & Moorland Championship.
The 2 highest placed Pure Bred ponies, not already qualified, from class 9 will qualify for the Final which will take place at the
Blair Castle International Horse Trials on Friday 25th August 2017. Qualification to go no lower than 4th place. Please check
with NPS Scotland Novice Rules for entry on page 1.

The highest placed Yearling, Two year old and Three year old and the highest placed Brood Mare in foal or with foal at foot will
qualify for the Tam O’ Shanter Championship. The final to be held at the BCPS Breed Show on the 15th July 2017

The Pure Bred Youngstock Champion and Reserve are eligible to qualify for the Final NPS Scotland/ Townhead Pet n Pony In
Hand Mountain & Moorland Championship which will take place at the Blair Castle International Horse Trials on Friday 25 th
August 2017. Qualification may go to 3 rd in the Championship (i.e. 1st Reserve Champion)
Pure Bred Young Stock Championship 1st and 2nd prize winners from classes 17, 18 & 19 are eligible.
Pure Bred In Hand Mature
Class 20 Stallion, Barren Mare or Gelding, 4 - 14 years old
Class 21 Veteran Stallion, Mare or Gelding, 15 years and over
This Class is a qualifier for the NPS/Senior Plus In Hand National Championship, the highest placed pony not already
qualified goes forward to the final
Class 22 Mare with foal at foot or due to foal, 4 years old and over (covering certificate required).
Class 23 Foals (no entry fee) but please enter on entry form and state age. The minimum age for showing foals is four weeks old.
Pure Bred Adult Championship 1st and 2nd prize winners from classes 20 – 23 are eligible.
NPS Scotland Qualifier
The Pure Bred Adult Champion & Reserve, are eligible to qualify for the Final NPS Scotland/ Townhead Pet n Pony In Hand
Mountain & Moorland Championship which will take place at the Blair Castle International Horse Trials on Friday 25th August
