Yi Ting Chen(Jeffrey) Game #1 Post-Mortem / Circle Catch
Version 1 (Playtest #1)
In our first group meeting, we wrote down some game ideas and tried to create a
physical game based on those ideas. After our meaningful discussion, we decided to
make a game called "Circle Catch".
Sketch
Equipments
- a kid size American football
- a whistle (for referee/not necessary)
Rules
1. Choose one player to be the referee
2. The referee arrange players into a circle. Each player should have enough space to
fully extend their arms without touching another player.
3. Referee pick a player to start with the ball
4. the player with the ball tosses the ball to another player in the circle. If the player
catches the ball, the game will continue. If the player does not catch the ball, they
will be out.
5. If the player is out, then the player who tossed the ball can think of a rule to
execute on other players, such as "touching your nose." The new rule will cancel out
the previous rule. The player who makes the new rule does not have to follow it.
6. If a player becomes out of the game they can walk around the outside of the circle
and try to catch a ball that has been thrown before it hits the ground. If they catch a
ball they can get back into the game. This player cannot enter the circle to
intercept a pass. A player can only get back into the game once.

Feedback
On September 10th, we did our first play test in class. We told our classmates about
our game and it was quite easy to follow our rules. However, when we started
playing our game, we faced some problems. People took too long to think of rules,
especially when there were only 3 to 4 people left in the game. People went out of
rules in their minds because other people had used it already.
Version 2 (Playtest #2)
Discussion after Playtest #1
After the first play test in class, we decided to change some of the rules to make the
game more fun and easy. The first rule we added was splitting players into two teams.
In version 1, we made each player as an individual team. When one player was
tossing the ball, he did not need to think who he needed to toss to. This was because
every other player was his enemy. However, in version 2, players needed to think
who they should throw the ball to, since players did not want to throw their ball to
their teammates and knock them out. They only needed to knock the enemy team
out. The second rule we added was to make a deck of card with rules. In version 1,
people who tossed the ball and knocked the enemy out had to think of a rule to
execute on other players. However, some people have no ideas on what rules they
should make. Therefore, in version 2, our group created the rules before the game
and wrote them on a deck of card. When a player knocked another player out, he
just needed to pick one card and execute the rule on the card to other players.
Equipments
- a deck of cards with rules
- a kid size American football
- a whistle (for referee/not necessary)
Rules
1. Choose one player to be the referee.
2. The referee should divide the players into two teams and then arrange the other
players into a circle. Each player should have enough space to fully extend their arms
without touching another player.
3. The referee starts off the game by choosing a rule from a deck of cards. The
referee then states the rule (sand on one leg) and hands the ball to a player. The
chosen player will not have to follow the rule(stand on one leg).
4. the player with the ball tosses the ball to another player in the circle. If the player
catches the ball the game continues. If the player does not catch the ball they are
out.
5. If the player is out then the player who tossed the ball can choose a new rule
randomly from a stack of cards offered by the referee. The new rule will cancel out
the previous rule. The player who makes the new rule does not have to follow it.
6. Along with the rules there will be a few wild cards that can be drawn. If a wild card
is drawn the player can either pick one player to be out or one player to be back in
the game. Once the player makes their decision another rule is drawn and the game
continues.
7. If a player becomes out of the game they can walk around the outside of the circle
and try to catch a ball that has been thrown before it hits the ground. If they catch a
ball they can get back into the game. This player cannot enter the circle to
intercept a pass. A player can only get back into the game once.
