JUBILEE PARISH FIELD – NEW PLAY/FITNESS EQUIPMENT
This week four new pieces of play/fitness equipment have been installed on the field.
Behind the shelter there is a set of parallel bars and a set of three different height bars for
pull ups. These can be used by children right through to grownups. By the fenced play area
there is a combination piece of equipment, mainly for the children but mums have been seen
on it, which will aid balancing and climbing skills. At the end of this is a monkey bar set for
climbing/swinging which will suit many age groups.
The Parish Council has arranged for this equipment using funds which are collected by MDDC
as part of the planning process where certain house builders are required to make a
contribution toward play and green open space enhancement within the relevant
parish/town. In deciding what to buy the parish council spoke informally to a number of
children and parents and then enlisted the advice of James Marshall, of Excelsior as to the
most appropriate affordable equipment which would aid fitness and well being at the same
time as encouraging play and experimentation.
The final installation was handed over to the Parish Council by the suppliers at 1400 hours on
Thursday 22 September 2016. By 1430 it was being tested out by some mums and toddlers
who were on the field. When school ‘kicked out’ the children were all over it and using their
imaginations to put the equipment to uses far in excess of what it was designed for – brilliant.
Please make full use of the equipment, whatever your age, but also please keep an eye out
for wanton or accidental damage. It is pretty robust but will succumb to abuse and it is not
cheap and so if someone ruins it the village will lose it.
Who knows – next year it may be possible to buy a little more!
Watch out on the football pitch as it has been agreed that some junior teams in the area can
use it for matches which will help keep more children fit and healthy. Dog owners please note
to be even more diligent in clearing up after your pride and joys.
