VARIETY: Mencía
DRINK: 2016 2019
They reduced the amount of oak for the 2013 Losada,
trying to show more the Mencía character in the wine.
The nose denotes more freshness, it doesn't seem as
concentrated as in previous vintages, and the palate
also shows better balance. I like the direction this
cuvée is going within the house style. There were
92,428 bottles and 300 magnums produced.

The 2014 Pájaro Rojo is a young unoaked Mencía
from mostly clay soils in the Bierzo valley. They used
5% full clusters and fermented with indigenous
yeasts. The wine rested for a couple of months with
the lees before being transferred to oak barrels for a
short élevage of around six months. There are
aromas of ripe black fruit intermixed with dark spices
and some orange peel, giving an overall feeling of
ripeness with freshness. The palate shows great
intensity of flavors and power with balance. A very
good, young and powerful Mencía. 103,288 bottles
produced.

About Maturity and Drink Dates: Most reviews in The Wine Advocate include a period during which the wine
should ideally be consumed. We express it as a range of years (Drink Dates) and we use that range to calculate
a "Maturity" for the wine as of the current date. Maturity values are: Young  the early drink date is in the future;
Early first third of the drink date range; Mature middle third of the range; Late last third of the range; Old the
late drink date is in the past.
