King Street West Road Work and TTC Track Reconstruction Queen Street West to Close Avenue Start Date: May 2011* End Date: September 2011 Work Area *Timeline subject to change due to unforeseen events. Content is accurate and current at time of printing. This year from May to September, the City of Toronto Technical Services and the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) will undertake major construction work on King Street West from just south/east of the Queen/King/Roncesvalles intersection to Close Avenue. The work will include; reconstruction of the streetcar track, road reconstruction/resurfacing, traffic signals, some curb and sidewalk work and streetscape (e.g. construction of path through the park, benches etc.). Work is scheduled to begin just south/east of the Queen/King/Roncesvalles intersection and proceed south/east to Close Avenue. Traffic and Parking Restrictions During heavy construction, restrictions will be imposed to turning, parking and driving lanes within and slightly beyond the work area. One eastbound lane will be maintained from Queen Street West to Close Avenue during the TTC track reconstruction phase; the westbound lane will be reinstated as quickly as possible thereafter. No parking will be permitted in the active work zones. (see further details on reverse) King Street West from Close Avenue to Queen Street West. Continued Pedestrian Access Pedestrian access to businesses and walkways will be maintained at all times during construction. Work Hours Work will generally run from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm, Monday to Friday, and from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm on Saturday. However, the TTC track reconstruction phase of this project will involve periods of late evening and overnight work and extended weekend hours. The overnight rail work by TTC may consist of moving rail into position, rail installation and rail welding / grinding. After-hours work by TTC is required to support the daytime construction and complete the project as quickly as possible. TTC Transit Service During the construction, changes will be made to streetcar service on King Street West. Details of the changes will be provided in a future notice to the community, and will be posted at transit stops along the route in advance of the service changes. Note: More detailed transit information will be provided prior to work beginning in May 2011.
