Falcon Firebird Volleyball Program Parent/ Player Contract Welcome to the Falcon Firebird Volleyball Program we are very excited to work with your daughter this season. Volleyball is a game of offense, defense and strategies. Players and parents are expected to accept their player’s role on the team. Whether it is setter, defensive player, hitter, server, or all of the above. Each player will be placed in the game based on what they show the coaches in practice. 6th Grade Volleyball- Coach Patrick Weber, ([email protected] 719-495-1149 ext 2040) There will be an “A” and a “B” team at this level. Players will learn basic volleyball skills, underhand/overhand serve, rotations and movement on the court. All players will get playing time but it is not guaranteed to be equal. 7th Grade Volleyball: Coach Tenill Young ( [email protected] 719-495-5233) Players will learn specific positions, attempt to overhand serve and will usually run a basic offense. Every player will get in the game but equal playing time is not guaranteed. 8th Grade Volleyball: Coach Jeanette Ninemire ([email protected] 719-495-1149 ext. 4041) Players will learn a 6-2 and a 5-1 offense and perimeter defense. They will be expected to use an overhand serve. Every player will get into the game, but equal playing time is not guaranteed because they are learning specific positions. This is to prepare them for the Falcon High School Volleyball Program. All teams have new uniforms this year. Players are expected to take care of their uniform. They will be returned at the end of the season. Athletic Fee $50 must be paid before the first match on August 29. If you need to work out payment options or your player is free/reduced lunch, please call Karen Hobson 719-4955220 to make arrangements. Every parent must read and sign the last page in the athletic handbook found online at http://www.d49.org/domain/896 . This contract must also be signed. Player Expectations Practices: 1. Players will support their teammates on and off the court. 2. Be on time for practice and games. 3. Dress appropriately. (No tank tops or spaghetti strap shirts) 4. Help set up equipment. 5. Must be respectful to other players and coaches. 6. Must attend every practice and game. Players or Guardian must notify the coach if they will miss practice or a game by email or phone call. Failure to notify the coach will result in an unexcused absence. a. Player missing practice the day before a game will not be allowed to start the first set of the match. If absence is unexcused, their playing time will be affected. b. 6th grade will start practice by 6:15am and end at 7:30am. Players will have the opportunity to eat breakfast in the cafeteria if they need too. c. 7th and 8th grade will start practice at 3:00 and the players will be out the door at 5:30pm. Coaches will not keep them late. We understand the importance of schedules. GAMES: 1. Players are expected to stay and sit with the team for both matches. They will shag balls for warm-ups and cheer for the team playing. 2. Games are usually on Monday and Wednesday except for the week after Labor Day. 3. Away games, the players can be signed out at the end of the last match, if they are not riding the bus home A Parent or Guardian must sign out players with the coach. They cannot be signed out by anyone else unless we have written permission before the match from the parent. We are not allowed to accept a phone call to release them to a different person. 4. Home games players are expected to have a ride home after the match. They will sit behind the bench to cheer for the team playing. 5. Eligibility: We believe academics come first before athletics. A player must maintain a “C” average. We will not allow them to play with a “D” or “F”. We will give them a heads up on Monday and the final check will be on Friday at 10 am for eligibility the next week. Even if they get their grade up after Friday 10 am they can’t play the whole next week. 6. Cell phones: Players will not be allowed to use their cell phones during practices, or on the bus to away games. They will only be allowed to have them after practices or after the game on the way home. If a player has their phone out at an inappropriate time the coach will keep the phone until after the match. Coaches want the girls to bond and talk to each other without the use of social media. Parents Expectations: 1. Parents are expected to cheer for their daughter and our team. 2. Parents will not yell at the officials. Less experienced officials get assigned to the middle school level games and they are learning too. Coach Ninemire was an official for 32 years and she will talk to official if it is needed. 3. Coaches have to wait for all the players to be picked up, so parents are expected to arrive on time to pick up their daughter from practices and games. 4. Parents are expected to follow protocol and wait 24 hours before talking to a coach after a match. If the player is unhappy the player must talk to the coach before the parent talks to the coach. Coaches will not discuss playing time. They will discuss on what they can do to improve. Thank you for supporting Firebird Volleyball! LET’S HAVE A GREAT SEASON! GO FIREBIRDS! I understand the expectations listed in the contract. Failure to follow the expectations could result in reduction of playing time or dismissal from the team. Please sign and return to your coach by Thursday August 24, 2016.
