DRAGON TAG (League Tag) RULES OF PLAY 1. Maximum of 8 players per side with unlimited interchange (should be no more than 3 reserves to ensure maximum participation). 2. Games consist of 7 minute halves (this may be altered in gala day situations). 3. The game is played across a full sized Rugby League field – approximately 68 metres X 40 metres (may alter for competitions and Gala Days). 4. The game is of 6 tag phases. Tags are effected by removing a tag from a player’s belt. The ball carrier is not allowed to ‘protect’ his/her tags or fend off defenders. No shirt or clothing grabbing is allowed when attempting to tag a player. No contact – the onus is on the ball carrier to avoid the defender. 5. At the Play-the-Ball: i) a marker is to be present and cannot strike the ball or move until the ball is in the hands of the 1st receiver or the dummy half elects to run. The ball must be played backwards. The dummy-half or 1st receiver may either run, pass or score. If either player runs, does not score and is tagged, then the ball is turned over where the tag occurred. ii) iii) 6. There are to be no scrums. A turnover will occur when: i) a player knocks on (in the case of a double knock on, a turn over is awarded against the team making the first breach). A player runs into touch. A football is kicked into touch after first landing in the field of play. See Play the Ball rules as above ii) iii) iv) 7. A place kick will start both halves with a requirement that the ball travels 10m in a forward direction and lands in the field of play. Restart of play after a try has been scored involves the non-scoring side tapping off. If a place kick crosses the opponents dead ball line on the bounce, play will restart with a drop kick from the centre of the goal line. If a place kick travels over the dead ball line on the full, a penalty tap back at the centre of halfway, by the non-offending team will recommence play. 8. There are to be no BOMBS (the ball cannot travel higher than it travels in distance). Chips, grubbers and downtown kicks are allowed after the fourth tag. If the ball is kicked and goes out of play on the full, the non-kicking team will receive a changeover at the point where the kick took place. If the ball is kicked and it lands in the field of play and then rolls out, the nonkicking team will receive a changeover 5 metres in from where the ball crossed the line. 9. The line of defence must be 5 metres from the Play-the-ball. 10. Players / Spectators / Coaches Code of Conduct laws will apply (will be sent to schools with draw) 11. All tries will be awarded 1 point and there will be no conversions.
