Coach Stewart has long been a part of the Heritage
Soccer program. He began patrolling the sidelines as a
ball boy (1986-92), and moved on to a stellar playing
career from (1993-97) where he was named All-Area
(96, 97) and Region Player of the Year (97). He went on
to play at Berry College (97-01) where he was a 2 time
Scholar Athlete. He earned his National “C” coaching
license. Since 2007, Coach Stewart has led the Patriots
to the State Playoffs in all 5 seasons at the helm,
compiling a 56-24-9 record during that time. 2012
brought the first region title in over 10 years for the
Boys program. He picked up region Coach of the Year
honors & was named GHSA all-star coach. 2009 (Area

The most established soccer player in HHS history…Help
lead HHS to State Championship… Played college soccer
at the University of South Carolina where he was a 4year starter, scoring 53 goals & 15 assists in 58 career
games, leading his team to the NCAA Tournament 4
times… As a sophomore in 1995, he set a school record
with 25 goals, which tied him for the NCAA lead that
season….He was twice named All-American…Was
drafted 6th overall by the LA Galaxy in the 1st round of
the 1998 MLS College Draft… Played 2 ½ years with LA,
he moved on to NY MetroStars where he broke the MLS
record by scoring five goals in a game, finishing 2nd in the
league in scoring with 16 goals and 14 assists and was
named to the MLS Best XI… In 2001, he scored 7 goals in
his first 6 games, including the league's eventual Goal of
the Year…. He left Metro with 39 career goals, 2nd best in
team history…Helped the US National team qualify for
the 2002 FIFA World Cup, where he famously shaved his
hair into a mohawk and scored a goal in a 1–1 draw with
South Korea… In 46 US caps, he scored 12 international
goals… In 2002, he became the first male soccer player
in 8 years to appear on the cover of Sports Illustrated…
Signed with Hannover 96 of the German Bundesliga,
then transferred back to MLS, joining expansion club
Real Salt Lake, then Colorado, then NY Red Bulls where
he is currently the franchise's 2nd All-Time leading
scorer with 45 goals, then returned to the LA Galaxy…
He then signed with Ergotelis in the Greek First
Division…He returned to Real Salt Lake and won the MLS
Cup, then retire with the LA Galaxy… He scored 61 goals
in 258 MLS appearances
