Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Bellwork #110 Bellwork #111 Spiral Review/Bellwork Inference question BW Quiz MAP TEST (5-8 minutes) Homework Review BW Quiz Review HW Review HW Review HW Review 6-6.4 How do students use theoretical probability to determine the sample space and probability for two stage events Students can use this skill to determine the probability of simple one or two stage events that occur. Students were introduced to two stage events during the previous lessons and have prior knowledge multiplying fractions and one stage events. Probability fractions sample space outcomes, two-stage event. Flipcharts Students can use this skill to determine the probability of a coin flip, rolling dice or spinning a spinner. Students can use this skill to determine the probability of simple two stage events that occur. Students can use this skill to determine the probability of simple two stage events that occur. In fifth grade students were taught to represent probability of one stage simple events in fractions and words. Students were introduced to two stage events during the previous lesson and have prior knowledge multiplying fractions and one stage events. Probability fractions sample space outcomes, two-stage event tree diagram Teacher Modeling (I do) After students complete Key Terms Probability, fractions, sample space, outcomes, event. Students will be introduced to two stage events during the lesson but have prior knowledge multiplying fractions and one stage events. Probability fractions sample space outcomes, two-stage event. Instructional Methods/Strategies Teacher Modeling (I do) After students complete Teacher Modeling (I do) After students complete Prior Learning BW Quiz Probability game Teacher Modeling (I do) After students complete Teacher Modeling (I do) Differentiating Instruction/ Modifications During Guided and Independent Practice Bellwork, teacher will go over the agenda. Teacher will complete a quick review of what is required of homework for the week and any special announcements that pertain the week’s schedule. Teacher will review the EQ with students and review any key terms that pertain to the lesson. Teacher will review fractions with students and how probability uses fractions to express answers to those questions. Teacher will have students think of different circumstances that probability can be used. Teacher will then model 2 problems with probability. Teacher will show students how to express their answer as a fraction and stress to students the parts to whole relationship of the fractions. Teacher will also show students non examples of fair events dealing with probability. The teacher will remind students that fractions must always be simplified. Guided Practice (we do) Teacher will start to model 3rd problem finding the probability of pulling a vowel from a bag containing the alphabet. For a second part to the activity, the students will be asked for the probability of the constantans in the alphabet. Teacher will release students in a partner activity where the students pair up, create their Bellwork, teacher will go over the agenda. Teacher will complete a quick review of what is required of homework for the week and any special announcements that pertain the week’s schedule. Teacher will review the EQ with students and review any key terms that pertain to the lesson. Teacher will introduce two stage events to students. The teacher will then ask for a few examples of two stage events. Teacher will then model how to find the probability of 2 different two stage events. Teacher will first complete a problem with two coins and the second problem will involve a coin and a dice. Teacher will show the steps to finding the probability of the two-stage events and remind students about simplifying. Guided Practice (we do) Teacher will start to model two more problems dealing with two stage events. Teacher will start the first problem, giving the probability of one of the events and then release students to complete the problem. For the second problem students will have students complete a controlled release on their own. Bellwork, teacher will go over the agenda. Teacher will complete a quick review of what is required of homework for the week and any special announcements that pertain the week’s schedule. Teacher will review the EQ with students and review any key terms that pertain to the lesson. Teachers will introduce the idea of completing a tree diagram for probability. The teacher will complete 2 problems using a tree diagram to solve a two stage event. Teacher will relate the diagrams to science class and how they can be used to classify animals. Teacher will make sure students have a list of steps that can used to solve these problems. Guided Practice (we do) Teacher will start to model two more problems dealing with two stage events. Teacher will start the first diagram, giving the probability of one of the events and then release students to complete the problem. For the second problem students will have students complete a controlled release on their own. Independent Practice (you Independent Practice (you do) Students will complete do) Students will complete multiple problems Bellwork, teacher will go over the agenda. Teacher will complete a quick review of what is required of homework for the week and any special announcements that pertain the week’s schedule. Teacher will review the EQ with students and review any key terms that pertain to the lesson. After students complete Bellwork quiz teacher will pass out probability game and demonstrate the way that chips can be put on the sheet. Teacher will then explain the rules and hw to play. Guided Practice (we do) Teacher will guide students through two rounds of the probability game. The first round will be the teacher rolling one di and the second will be the teacher rolling two dice. Independent Practice (you do) Students will complete the Bellwork Quiz Guided Practice (we do) Independent Practice (you do) own word problem for their partner to solve using colored counters. Independent Practice (you do) Students will complete multiple problems involving probability. Teacher will circulate through the room to make sure that students under stand how to find the probability of multiple types of one stage events.
