Welcome and CONGRATULATIONS on your acceptance to Bemidji State University (BSU) for the 2017-18 school year! I am beyond excited to meet each and every one of you. My name is Mrs. Deist (pronounced ‘Diced’). At EDUPRIZE each class will be representing a real life college as we participate in the Diploma Program. You will have the chance to work hard and earn different academic degrees. In fact, your first assignment is to learn as much as you can about BSU. Research facts such as: What type of school was BSU originally? What is the mascot’s name? Where is Bemidji State University located? How long would it take you to drive there in a car? Name one sports team from BSU. Bring this to Open House and receive a special treat. I am honored to begin my second year teaching at EDUPRIZE. I have been teaching for over a decade and can honestly say that EDUPRIZE is the best! Our staff, students, and administration are unparalleled. In addition to teaching, I love to read, do yoga, hike, knit, and hang out with my family. My passion for teaching is great and I am thrilled to be working at such a rewarding job. My husband and I have a spunky daughter, Baili, who will be attending 2nd grade here at EDUPRIZE, a rambunctious almost 4-year-old son, Hudson, and a kind fat dog named Nash. We will learn lots more about one another as we start the school year and grow to be a family. For now, let’s get down to some business… Please come meet me at Open House on Monday, July 24th at 9:30 a.m. in room 73 Building 2. We are asking that you come at the specified time in order to keep things less chaotic. However, if you are unable to make it then, I sure do not want to miss the chance to meet you and your parents, so please notify me ([email protected]) if you need to schedule a different time that day. Open House is the perfect time to bring in your supplies, check out our classroom, see some classmates, pick up important papers and mingle with me! You and your parents will also receive information on carpooling, parent volunteering and where to line up on the first day of school. I have included a list of suggested and optional school supplies. In addition, please bring a total of $10. This will pay for both your student planner and Scholastic News magazine. Checks can be made out to EDUPRIZE. Your enrollment includes the exciting hands-on learning of science through our cottages: Planetarium, Invention Convention, Physics Foundry, and Body Shop. Your first day of 5th grade is on Wednesday, July 26th at 7:50 a.m. We are in Village 1. This means our schedule will be Monday – Thursday 7:50 a.m. – 2:50 p.m. and Friday 7:50 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. On the first day of school I will meet you at our assigned spot on the playground. Please don’t be late, keep in mind that to be considered enrolled at EDUPRIZE, you must be on time and present the FULL DAY on the first day of school. Parents, please check our school website www.eduprizeschools.net to complete and print the Open House Forms, which include Emergency Documents, and bring them with you! Please check the website throughout the summer for updates. If you would, please email me at the address below and let me know your child’s name. I want to get an email list started as soon as possible. Thank you. Sincerely, Mrs. Meg Deist [email protected] Suggested SUPPLY LIST: (Please label the following items to put in your desk.)
