ISSUE: Southside Ball Field
BACKGROUND SUMMARY:
A mower that is dedicated for the maintenance of the Southside
ballfield is required for the Bermuda sod that was installed during the recent field upgrade. Staff
checked with Umatilla Mower who has in stock a gently used front throw reel mower that is the
appropriate equipment needed for field maintenance. The reduced price for the mower is $1,100.
During the field upgrade staff required consulting assistance with irrigation work in order to make
certain the installation was done correctly and placed in the proper location. Additionally, three
valves were replaced; all heads were nozzled and adjusted for proper coverage.
In speaking with the coaches who regularly use the field staff learned that the field is utilized by U-10
and U-12 teams. This called for adjustments to the infield because of the need for 60’ and 70’
baselines to accommodate both age groups. This increased the amount of clay and sod that required.
Staff requests the CRA Boards approve funding for the additional costs of $4,600 rather than causing it
to be paid from the General Fund.
STAFF RECOMMENDATIONS: Approval of additional funding of $5,700 from the CRA for Southside
Ball Field improvements and maintenance. Staff requests Umatilla Mower be declared a Designated
Source for the purchase of the mower.
