OBJECTIVE The deciduous fruit industry’s merit award for Journalism is focused to ensure continuous mutual contact between the fruit industry and the media. The material and entry forms must be packaged and transmitted in one envelope/holder per nomination. Use a separate envelope/holder for each nomination. No nomination material will be returned. The main purpose of this award is: The closing date is 31 July 2017. No late entries will be accepted! To motivate the media to convey the functions and activities of the industry as efficiently as possible to all role players in the target market; For all entries or further enquiries: To promote the interests of the deciduous fruit producers on a national basis and to enhance the image and products of the fruit industry; To enhance the variety of excellent qualities and health value of fruit; To establish and maintain continuous unity and commitment within the fruit industry as a whole. The ultimate winner will be selected from an eliminating round that consists of: The competition is open to all bona fide agricultural journalists or communication departments – published articles or reports with specific reference to the fruit industry, in newspapers or magazines in South Africa or broadcasted over audio and visual media in South Africa. Strategic: Articles, features and reports that could influence the future of the fruit industry in SA on the long term. Operational: Covering continuous activities of general agricultural activities. The detail of the award as well as the entry form is available on the HORTGRO website, www.hortgro.co.za. Previous winners may enter again. Role players and Industry people may also submit entries on behalf of journalists. Hard news: Short term, hard hitting news issues. Print and electronic journalists, as well as communication departments of agriculture organisations are required to submit articles for any of the above categories they wish to enter. Finalists will be selected on the basis of: Creativeness – Is the insertion new, original and easy? Best possible contribution to promote and enhance the image of the deciduous fruit industry. Dynamics, extent and topicality of insertion. Is it well written along with the necessary technical finishing touches? PRIZES Trophy and a cash prize to the value of R5000. JUDGING The entries and nominations will be judged by a committee consisting of three to five persons selected by the Industry Association of Deciduous Fruit. The judges are chosen in terms of their knowledge of the fruit industry, the art of writing and/or communication media. The decision of the judges is final and no correspondence will be entered into. The judges reserve the right to withhold the prizes depending on the merit of the entries. ENTRY REGULATIONS NB: Please follow up to confirm that your entry has been received. HOW TO ENTER? Judging will take place during August at HORTGRO, 258 Main Street, PAARL. Entrants are required to submit articles which has been published or broadcasted between 1 August 2016 and 31 July 2017. Indicate the category you are entering. The announcement of the winner and the handing over of this award will take place at the annual Gala Evening of the Fruit industry on 22 September 2017. Print entrants should submit one master copy of each article (no photocopies). Nominations must be justifiable of work published between 1 August of the previous year and 31 July of the current year. Radio entries should be submitted by CD or SD/USB. Any journalist, author, publisher or media/communication division can participate. The industry maintains the right to Television entries should be submitted by DVD or SD/USB, containing one cast each. Advertorials cannot be entered for the competition. Each entry must have a covering letter with the name and address of the entrant as well as the name and address of the employer, telephone numbers of the business as well as home telephone numbers with dialing codes and title(s) of each article or report. postpone or terminate the competition due to unforeseen circumstances. The organizers are willing to assist the finalists with any travelling and accommodation arrangements (the finalists are responsible for the costs of their spouse / partner.)
