How to apply The Youth Opportunity Fund is a pot of £50,000 of Council funding, available to young people for their project ideas. Once you have come up with an idea: 1. Talk it through with your friends and adult sponsor who are going to support you. 2. Read through the following guidelines to help you. 3. Attend a Funding Factory to chat through your idea with the YOF panel. 4. Fill in this application form or fill it in online. Be as specific as you can. We like bullet points! Deadlines for applications There are 4 YOF funding rounds. Please ensure you keep the presentation panel evening time and date free. All presentation evenings will be held at: Training and Resource Centre, Alma Road, SW18 1AQ. Please note, these dates are all Mondays. Funding Factories The YOF panel wants to help you access the grant. We are running 4 Funding Factories to support you. We STRONGLY encourage you to attend a Funding Factory. We have found that young people who attend a Funding Factory are more likely to have their YOF application succeed. Last year there was a 90% success rate from those who attended Funding Factories. 4. Guidance notes and Rules The YOF panel wants to grant (give) money to benefit as many groups of young people as possible. We want to make the application process as easy as possible. 4.1 YOF Rules Tick the boxes to make sure you have read and understood the YOF rules: You are 11-19 years old. Or if you have a learning difficulty or disability you can apply up to your 25th birthday. Your project will be completed by 28 February 2018. ALL money will be spent by 28 February 2018 ALL YOF invoices and receipts will be submitted before 28 February 2018 You are applying for between £500 to £4000. You need to be part of a group to apply e.g. more than 1 young person BOTH young people named on the bid need to attend the Presentation Panel evening to be eligible to receive the funding BOTH young people named on the bid need to be present at the project delivery days Your project MUST benefit more than 10 young people. You MUST supply us with all the attendance registers for your project delivery dates, if applicable (If this is applicable, it shall be stated on the Terms and Conditions of your Grant Offer Letter). Youth Opportunity Fund Application form 2017 – 2018 3 Your project must benefit young people who are 11-19 who live, work, study or attend a youth group in Wandsworth. You MUST submit an evaluation form. Your project may be inspected by our YOF panel. Applicants need an adult sponsor or supporting organisation. Adult sponsors or supporting organisations MUST already be delivering a service in Wandsworth. The location of the main activity MUST be in Wandsworth, unless the money is funding a trip or residential Groups can apply for more than 1 grant per round, and more than 1 grant per year and can receive more than 1 grant per year. 4.2. Finance Rules You will get 50% of your money at the start of the project and 50% at the end. The first 50% will be released once the full, completed and signed, Grant Offer Letter has been returned We must receive proof that you have spent the first 50% of money before we can release the other 50% of funding. You must submit a short mod-project monitoring report outlining what you have done and what you have spent the money on together with proof of what you have spent e.g. receipts, invoices. You MUST submit evidence for 100% spend of your YOF project together with a short report of what you have done and what you spent the money on. Not submitting evidence of expenditure may stop future YOF applications being successful. Grants will only be paid straight into an adult sponsor or organisation sponsor’s bank account. Failure to submit proof of expenditure, the mid-project monitoring form and the evaluation form, may hinder future applications being successful. 4.2. What can YOF fund? 1. Equipment and resources including IT and camping equipment. 2. Activities and projects or events including residentials and transport. Youth Opportunity Fund Application form 2017 – 2018 4 3. Refurbishment and small building works. 4. Start up costs. 4.3. What can’t YOF fund? 1. Young people to start up a business. 2. Any activities that aim to make a profit unless it is to put back into youth activities. 3. Projects that only benefit those who are applying. 4. Trips abroad. 5. Staff costs over £15/hour, unless these are for specialist staff/ tutors. 6. Management costs. 7. YOF are not able to fund projects or works in schools that could reasonably be expected to be funded by the school themselves. 5. YOF Objectives The Wandsworth Youth Opportunity Fund Panel want the Youth Opportunity Fund to be successful. They see a successful YOF year as being 1. Youth Led! 2. Fun to take part in! 3. What are the YOF panel looking for? YOF applications will be marked against the following criteria: 1. Has the idea come from young people? 2. Will the project work? 3. Is the project value for money? What is the cost per person? Is it sustainable? 4. Is the idea new and innovative? 5. Will the project help an under represented or disadvantaged group? 6. Does the project address an area of need in Wandsworth? 7. Have the panel got all the information they need to make a decision? 8. Does it meet the YOF objectives? 7. What should I expect on presentation night? The YOF panel has a standard set of questions they will ask you. These questions are: How were young people involved in the creating the idea? How will young people be involved in running and evaluating the project? Talk us through the budget and your reasoning for what you are asking for? What are your plans for the future of this project? The panel may also have some additional questions for you, based on your application. Evaluation The YOF Panel runs inspections of projects that are successful in securing YOF Funding. If your application is successful If your application is successful, we will notify you of the amount you have been awarded. This award is on condition that you meet any additional conditions laid out by the panel and return to us the following documents: A signed acceptance of the conditions of the grant (Grant Offer Letter) A confirmed budget for the project We will release 50% of the grant up front upon receipt of these documents. The further 50% will be released once we have received evidence of at least 50% of your project expenditure. This is important to think about when planning your project. You will also need to complete two monitoring forms, which will all be sent with the Grant Offer Letter. The YOF Panel may also ask to come in and inspect the project - so please ensure that you have completed Q10. Evaluation. Q12. Before you submit your application, please ensure you have: Completed ALL sections of this application. Kept the YOF presentation evening free. Made sure your project will be completed by February 2018. Spoken to your adult sponsor and got their agreement to host the money for your project.
